Sheffield Wednesday possible -15 points next season

Looks like their take over could go through today. 🤞

Full house for their final game tomorrow as they strive to reach the dubious honour of hitting zero points for the season. 👏

But starting next season on -15 points. 😔

Let’s hope this is the start of the comeback for this great club and for whose supporters have surely suffered enough. 🦉 ⚽

-15 is a kicker but the £20/30m they are saving could be used to buy players that will bring in a lot more than 15 points. That was Mike Ashley’s thoughts all along.

Having seen them a few times this season they'll need to spend a heap of money to avoid relegation next season.

Just looked and they are under a transfer ban till Jan 27. Hopefully that can be reduced by 6 months and allow them to sign players. I know theyd need to sign a lot but a few decent signings in that league can easily get you 10/15 points extra. A good solid mid table finish whilst sorting everything out will probably be the dream for most fans.

I'm sure the players at Hillsborough will be affected next season by starting 15 points behind the rest.
If they can't bring in new players they'll be too far adrift by January.
The team this season has been League 2 standard, at best.
I honestly think history will repeat itself.

They on flippin -15 next season aswell? ... didn't know that.
Man City gonna be playing Sunday league soon then, you'd think.

Nope as they can’t be relegated or kicked down the divisions as EPL and EFL are 2 very different bodies. Any punishment will be points deduction (so relegated that season only) or a financial punishment.

Got to just hope that the guarantee of wages helps them plus a year’s experience. EFL go to be looking at a reduction on the transfer embargo even if it’s just only free transfers. Could be a great club to loan players too, get them used to playing in front of very big crowds.

Hopefully Wednesday don't resort to needing owner funding to survive and cut their cloth accordingly.

I think any team exiting adminstration is required to stick to certain limits with wages, which are tighter when the -15 post admin penalty is applied

Rules are rules and sanctions have to be. imposed if they are broken but the punishment has to fit the crime and all that. Under the tenure of the current owners of Wednesday behaved disgracefully and the Club has paid and has been seen to pay a very high price .

It now appears that more responsible people will shortly be in charge of the Club. In the event of that development handing out further punishment to the Club is inappropriate. The staff of the Sheffield Wednesday its players and fans have all suffered this past season and yet they were all innocent - it's time to give them a break.

Sure there are only about 5 teams in England that are not owner funded though, that goes from Arsenal to Exeter. Teams rarely make profit especially if you remove player sales, every club is 1 bad owner away from admin and most in League 1 and 2 will be about 2 weeks away from disaster.

It doesn’t seem right. You’d think if they are getting new owners there should be an element of giving them a chance to wipe the slate clean and start over.

At the start of this they interviewed one of the administrators who was a Sheff Wed fan and said he would be working to get the best outcome for the club. Well hes doing a f***ing shit job of it and he'll kill the club if hes not careful.

That could've been argued regarding Rangers in Scotland.
I'm just going on what I've seen from Sheff Wed this season.
Would love to see them defy the odds, but they'll go down if they keep the same team.

Totally agree. It's going to have a huge impact upon the careers of the players that are currently there, and they haven't done anything wrong.
Th supporters have suffered enough too. Back to league 1, even if the points deduction has to stand they should be allowed to start buying players again. Hopefully mount a promotion challenge in 27/28.

If you think back to Phillips scoring a wonder goal in a 3-0 win at Hillsborough, I think that’s the season they were relegated from the Premier League and haven’t been back. And that was a long long time ago.

The further punishment is because the "more responsible" new owners are refusing to comply with league rules over minimum payments to non-football creditors.

It’s the issue with having to have a rule book. In a perfect world we’d just have guidelines and each situation could be dealt with on a case by case basis.

Owners would just find flaws in the rules, needs to be some sort of punishment for admin and failing to pay back creditors. Ex owners shouldn’t be counted (in non football creditor column) that’s the easiest way, if you fail you shouldn’t then be able to screw the club more by asking for 25% of your failure back. Won’t ever happen though as it’s the owners that’s vote on such a rule change.
