Sheff Wed - financial issues

Always had a soft spot for Sheff Wed. No real reason why.

Morecambe in the shit too.

But players at the other end of the spectrum demanding £350k a week and the media just accept it.

Until the media start openly criticising football/players at the top level instead of fawning over them. Nowt will change

Meanwhile we are spending £100 million. Football is broken.

Absolutely mental. How the FA/EFL can watch this happen without intervening is disgusting. There should be a mechanism whereby an owner is relieved of control and the governing bodies step in to prevent clubs going to the dogs.

Sheff wed proper big club. Proper stadium aswell. Semi final for us mvs norwich when we got to fa cup final in 92 was a memory i remember well.

Shame when proper clubs look doomed.

I heard they have a second series of a documentary coming out on Netflix in early August.

Some horror show called 'Wednesday' apparently.

Always had a soft spot for Wednesday mainly due to the old man speaking well of them when he worked down there.
Also love the name Spion Kop for one of their stands named after a battle in the Boer War same as Anfield both cities had a large representation of local Regiments present at the Battle.

The final moments in such a deal are the worst I'd imagine. Fingers crossed it all goes through but don't get overexcited until the new party puts their cards on the table. Hopefully no false-dawn & it doesn't become a get rid of one but bring in another to continue the job - which depends on what the previous left behind.

In our case he can walk away making money.
Put next to nothing in thus just prolonging the pain. If he doesn’t accept it then it goes legal which slows everything down.
He has run out of runway as the saying goes. Still holding on for a stake in the future of the club. Just needs to fk off once and for all.
As you say mate it's a massive club with immeasurable potential. I hope they get new owners out of the mold of those lads at Wrexham . Not like the yankie bastard we had .

I think we are about to go the same way ;)

I’ve got a lot of time for Wednesday, decent fans for the most part and a proper club. Hillsborough is a shithole albeit a “proper old school” ground and needs a fortune spending on it.

The FA need to look at the regulations around ownership. We’ve already seen what’s happened with Bury, Morecambe are in dire straits but it might take a “big” club like Wednesday going under for them to do something

You’ve got Sheffield United being 90 minutes away from premier league football, even though they’d been ‘punished’ with a points deduction, Everton staying up despite a points deduction and Man City making their case so complex that the legal process seems to struggle to hold them to account. A fella I was talking to the other day was wondering if we could get away with spending a bit too much and riding out a points deduction to survive.

There needs to be a reduction in how many players a club can own, pushing the forever loanees out to clubs down the pyramid and a cap on what clubs can earn and spend, if a club still goes bust and goes under, then so be it, but the whole structure needs looking at.

In football, anyone at that level is in it purely for personal gain (££), they'll drag it out for every last penny they can get out of it. He's in quite a strong position really knowing he's disliked so will milk-it totally. If he could be offered more to complete quickly that will probably be within his planning/stance.

That case was a one off mega-rich whim so don't build your hopes up on that scenario  You'd probably get Pol Pot in partnership with Josef Mengele.
