Shed Seven

Love Shed Seven. When I first discovered A Maximum High in about 1997 I couldn’t believe how many good, memorable songs it contained. I could never understand the sneering put downs and damning indictments of the band. Getting Better, On Standby, Where Have You Been Tonight, Going For Gold, Bully Boy - all chunky riffs/jangly guitars and catchy hooks.
Then Chasing Rainbows proved they could knock out a nice ballad.

Their later stuff was weaker, but they still had some great songs amongst it all. I’m chuffed that they’ve got the number one, even though it’s probably sold far less than some of the other albums in their heyday. A decent, hardworking band who’ve toured a load and built up a loyal fanbase. I’ve seen them twice and both times they were excellent. I’m sure the first time was at Middlesbrough Town Hall back in the late 90s when we beat Notts Forest 3-0. Happy times!
