Setting a field

Do a Murali and chuck it.

But bar the final over, doesn't sound like much needs doing? Just bad fielding isn't it?

I'd like to get some consistency (or at least control) over the revs/spin I get on the ball. Don't feel confident enough to really rip the ball as it feels like it'll fall out of my grip. Guess it's just practice - as it stands, I've bowled 12 overs as an offspinner, taking 4-74 so can't really complain.

Try this?
Long Off
Mid On
Midwicket
Short Cover
Deep Square Leg
Deep Point
Slip/Gully
Fine leg
short third man

maybe take out fine leg, and put him in extra cover.

I'd go with this, with the exception of deep point not being deep if you trust your fielders.

Being a former pace bowler, I can't help but bowl at a decent lick so fine leg definitely needed as the keeper often misses the ball. Thanks though, might try this

Quick update (in case anyone cares):

After taking the advice from some on this thread, have been bowling with a 4-5 field (Slip, Gully, Cover, Mid-Off, Mid-On, Deep Mid Wicket, Short Mid-Wicket, Deep Square Leg, Short Fine Leg) the last 4 games have yielded combined bowling figures of:

15-0-87-5

Pretty happy with that considering it's 8 ball overs and effectively T20 conditions. Even moved the short mid-wicket out to conventional MW on Tuesday and got a wicket the next ball caught at mid-wicket!

Would have been 15-0-71-9 if the f***ing wicketkeeper could react to an edge but hey ho....

eSeason ended for me last night (missing the last 2 games due to holiday). Apart from 1 awful game against a bunch of Sri Lankan students who are far too good for our division (we are Div 4, they beat one of the Div 1 teams in the cup) I'm pretty happy with my first season as a spinner.

Finished with:
20-0-130-8
Bowling average of 16.25
Economy rate of 6.5 (T20 - 8 ball overs)

Without that game v Sri Lanka A
18-0-98-8

Still need to work on my grip and landing the ball in the same areas consistently, but generally happy with that

Bit late for this season but if no leg side restrictions try this. It's very negative and a little unorthodox but will flummox run of mill players whol be looking to hoyk spin bowling out the park. I tried it after a shoulder op when I was trying to get back to full tilt and I took 3 for spit in 4 overs. Wasn't trying to spin it mind just firing it in.
Here goes.
Right arm AROUND wicket to a right hand bat.
Fire ball into middle and leg (mainly leg).
Fine leg (tricky for keepers bowling this line)
Man of 45 saving one leg side.
Deep square leg
Deep mid wicket
A fairly straight orthodox mid wicket
Cow corner
Long on
Long off
Cover saving one

Take a good player to hit you on off side bowling that line (especially at level you now play). Invariably they'll try it and make an error or just get frustrated and attempt to whack you out of park straight into hands of awaiting fielders.
If got a good keeper mind ( I had a canny one) you could lose the fine leg and move man into 45 on offside saving one.
Keep it in mind for next year if at a loose end. ;)

2-7 leg side field? Controversial.....

I'm not sure I am accurate enough to set a field like that.

Little tip
Sorry to hear that

Bowling from that angle and at a lesser pave than you usually bowl it's actually not that tricky to maintain a decent line. It's not for every circumstance mind. A short leg side boundary could be fatal!
Was a few raised eyebrows when i set that field mind..

In 20-20 for off spin, you want the following for an off stump line;
Backward Point
Off-Side Sweeper (Bring in if your confident your not going to drag one down short and the guy can't play the reverse sweep)
Extra Cover
Mid-Off (If he wants to try to hit against the spin, let him).
Long-On (VERY IMPORTANT, PUT BEST FIELDER HERE)
Mid Wicket (Saving 1)
Cow Corner
Deep Backward Square
A man on the 45

All that cortisone pumped into that broken shoulder must've gone to your head with fields like that! Haha. Hope it's getting loose for next year mind :D:lol::cool:

Thinking outside the box arundez! It's those little percentages that could be difference between littletown holding that trophy aloft or you falling on your sword for a proper Captain to take over next season! And I don't mean @dirty bristow!:lol:
