Second xi T20 Competition

For those interested, Durham have now played all ten of their games and sit top of the North Group on 14 points.

Remaining games are due to be played Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.

No team can overtake Durham on points, though Yorkshire and Derbyshire could both equal our tally if Yorkshire win both remaining games (v Leics and Lancs) and Derby their final game v Notts.

A place at finals day at the beautiful Arundel Castle in Sussex on 24th June awaits the winners of all three groups and the best second place team, though the formula for that decision is complex!

I asked a Durham fielder in the first game could we qualify is we win both games, he said he didn't know !!! I the asked a fielder in the second game could we qualify if we win, he didn't know either,!!! Ffs. One of the coaches came to look for the ball as they cost 60 quid,.......I asked him also, he said he didn't know but thought it highly unlikely.I pointed out that 7 wins surely got you into the top 2, he just turned and walked away. ??????

The focus for them all is breaking in (or back in) to the first team. Nothing else matters! Coach should know though.

I‘m assuming that the top team in each group go through to finals day, plus one other, rather than the top four teams overall. Though I could be wrong!

Mind you, we could do without it on the 24th given our first xi fixture list: 23rd home to Northants, 25th away to Worcester and 26th away to Birmingham. You don’t really want your best “reserves“ sunning themselves on the south coast 350 miles away when you need them back to cover an injury in a hurry!

can't begrudge them a day at arundel, it's a lovely little place and a stunning ground.

if i had a few days spare i'd make the trip as i'm off down kent around the 28th

Notts beat Derby today which puts Durham in at least second place (Yorkshire still have one game to play and can only finish level) and firmly in the frame for a day at Arundel. If my maths are right no other team in the other two groups can overtake the points haul of leaders Sussex and Warwickshire. Either Derby or Yorkshire will be the other semi finalists. Yorks play Lancs tomorrow.
