Season ticket waiting list

Tbf if we were an established premier league club competing in the upper half of the table and in the mix for european qualification and cups etc then I would not care about paying the equivalent of £40-50 a game for a season card = £900ish

Would much rather that than than paying £20 a game in league one

£900 ish is a lot as a fixed cost for most households. Particularly when you factor in you can view every game live, you have the unpredictability of which day of the week and kick off time, together with winter extremes.

Some people will say but people wouldn’t think twice about spending half that to go to the play off final. In that context the season ticket looks good value but either way something else has to be sacrificed for most families, there are not many of our supporters where £900 can be easily justified given the competing things in life.

Where as £20 in the first division was easier to justify and was key to why our support base stayed so strong.

It doesn't cost £0 to go the matches for everyone either and if you've got a bairn in tow then it's nowhere near £0

There's also shift swaps, bairns to sort out if they don't go to match and many other factors that can happen through the season that would make spending £900 a harder choice for some given the amount of live games we'll probably have on TV anyway.

I’d rather pay the big bucks to see my club compete in top level football

Direct debit scheme splits paying in to 6 instalments so it’s affordable

I couldnt get onto that for some reason when i tried, it basically wanted a lumper off me in a one-r. Didnt help it was the same month i`d just paid one holiday off and put a deposit down on another.

I`m in the bin and just gonna have to compete for tickets on a game by game basis.

Also, for me personally over the last 2 or 3 season, I would say a match costs about £100. Tickets have been about 50 odd for me and my son, Then driving, parking, food, drink, sweets etc I probs end up spending another 50 or so each game so its not cheap. Certainly not one I could argue the toss over with the wife about not booking a holiday next year for

There are some really weird stances in this thread.

Lots of assumptions about people not being proper fans because they haven’t got a season ticket?

I moved back to the north east recently, and I fully intend on getting a season ticket at some point. Right now though, childcare costs are crippling me, and I can’t just dump the little man on my Mrs every other weekend whilst I piss off and watch the football. She’s falling behind on her PhD and so I often have to have him by myself whilst she gets caught up.

When he’s old enough to enjoy football I’ll be getting he and I a season ticket, but until then I’ll just be getting tickets to occasional games where I can, and trying to watch us on the telly.

That doesn’t make me a shit fan though. I was there in the pissing down rain on that weird stand made from scaffolding at Accrington too. I just prioritise being a good dad over being a football fan.

Mate, this place is full of some right divs man.

I hope you can get sorted with the football soon. It’s a shame someone such as yourself can’t get a season ticket right now.

There are undoubtedly some PL fair weathers coming out of the woodwork but there are also genuine fans where their circumstances have just accidentally aligned with PL football.

It is what it is.

Ian not saying I don’t. But Iam lucky.

What sets this club aside is that it is a community club still, not a fashion accessory for the loaded to be associated with.

Our attitude towards kids in the last 20 years or so is what still makes us relevant… these are fans up to circa 30 years old now.

We have come through the last 8 years because of that investment.

Family and community that’s Sunderland AFC ….. let’s not lose it.

Mate when I started going in 1971 hardly anyone had a season ticket, but still went.

What’s more most everyone has periods in their life when they have to prioritise and can’t justify going to every match.

Be it kids, work, health, dependents, finance, playing sport. You don’t ever become a lesser supporter during these times.

I’ve missed being a season ticket holder for 4 years since 1985, I much rather have had my ticket those 4 years than do what I was doing.

Little nudge on this one. I messed up and didn't get my son a season ticket for this season. Is there actually a waiting list I can join so we can sit together next season? Getting tickets for him this season has been a proper farce and he's gutted to be missing out

He’ll be able to join the list, but not guaranteed to be next to you. That’ll require either a seat next to you becoming available, or 2 somewhere else you can move to.

That's actually what I call being a good Dad. You've got your priorities right. 👍

I have a little girl and a partner with chronic health issues. More to life than football....

I've not held a ticket for many a year. As soon as the old man stopped going I had no one to go with regularly anyway. I get there when I can, but when I've enquired it's proved nigh on impossible to get a ticket this season.

The club is doing something right.
