Well when it wasn’t going well in the 3rd tier we were still averaging over 30,000 the highest ever average for that league.
More than Villa, Leeds, Sheff Wed in that division, but you’ll probably blow smoke up there arses.

It hasn’t been ‘going well’ since about January 2001. It’s predominantly been a tidal wave of mediocrity and disaster since that period with the (very) occasional good day. And prior to 2001 it hadn’t been ‘going well’ since the mid 1950s.

Considering Sunderland have had three top half, top flight finishes, zero trophies and zero European appearances in approaching 50 years and a plethora of relegations and humiliations in that time period, our supporter retention is nothing short of remarkable. I don’t think there’s another club in Europe that could point to similar levels of support given the diet we’ve had.

The Sunderland story got it spot on. 1hr 30 on the 1879-1973 period with the 60s glossed over. Next to fuck all coverage of 1973-present other than brief references to Gabbiadini, Phillips and Quinn as the last 50 years in the main has been absolute shite.

That's exactly what I tell everybody. Since I have been gannin to see the lads in Aug 1958 I probably have had at the most 10 seasons where I thought I really enjoyed that season.
But I'm still here still shouting "The greatest team the world has ever seen"
