Did i mention Swann ?

It is a fact that most spinners do not master their art at 21. The experience they gain makes them a more canny competitor late doors. Coaches like Jenner, Parsons and Embury allude to this. And to be fair they have forgot more than i know.

Yes, i accept genius like Warne and Murali can cut the mustard straight away but as i say we are talking genius.

I don't accept that Borthwick has average potential. And neither does that world class coach Andy Flower.

was this the same Andy Flower who was part of the management team that gave Rashid a go in international cricket before realising he was barely any better than Ian Salisbury

Hey, Essex. I enjoy your views on here more than most, but i sometimes think you are a bit Mary Contrary:lol:

Flower is a pragmatic and forward thinking coach who ensures that he gets the best out of players and evidently is building for the future with young talent who have the mental aptitude to take on the challenge. I am not too sure how you can challenge his judgement, Scott Borthwick included.

I think back whilst cringing to a multitude of previous England fuckwit picks such as Iglesden, Such, Adams, James.......the list is endless. Flower compares favourably.

Anyway, Salisbury is a poor example to use considering unlike most spinners he depreciated with age ;-)

Rashid may come again, for the same reasons i have outlined in this thread. Only time will tell.

your not alone mate

Boyc's rates Rashid as a talent, sadly missing a cricket brain
Rekon Borthwick will probs b a better version of Schofield in all areas.

Strange how he is making his mark as a bowler considering his dad and his uncle were both strong high order batsmen in the local leagues. They didn't really bowl at all.
Would have expected him to follow in their vein really.

some would argue his batting is as good as his bowling

Played against him in the senior league when he was only about 15 or 16 and he hit an immaculate ton against us. Not a false shot or heave ho throughout.

I think you will find him at 6 or 7 before long

I'd like to see him given that opportunity. I don't see him being a prolific middle order batsman but I think he could average 33-37 in the lower middle order.

Playing against him at junior levels I always thought he'd go on and make a top class batsman, never really thought much of his bowling after I hit him for six playing under-13's cricket.

Seems to have knuckled down and really made something of himself though. I still have doubts as to whether he'll be a regular international cricketer but good luck to the lad, hope he gets a go on this tour at some point.
