Huge congratulations to St Patrick's Catholic College (Thornaby) Year 8 Boys Football team who have reached the final of the ESFA Small Schools Cup. They have faced numerous challenges to achieve this, with trips stretching the length of the country.
They will play a school from Ipswich in the final that will be hosted at the home of West Bromwich Albion, The Hawthorns on Friday 24th May. The match will be screened live on ESFA website and YouTube.
Along with this amazing achievement comes the need for the team to stay over in accommodation and travel costs. If anyone is able to help with these, via sponsorship then please contact either ourselves or the school directly.

Brilliant, well done St Pats, Thornaby.
Well done the staff for giving up their time to take the kids for training and matches.
I'd have hoped the FA could have stumped up for accomodation.

Great point about the FA, funding for grass roots footy. Just gotta ensure the teachers don’t book themselves into Hilton Birmingham!

What would you say your role was in all of this. Probably the humour?

Hope you bring it home mate! Great group of lads and an alright gaffer I suppose 😉

More funding should go into schools football. Grassroots has become overly commercialised, too driven by profit and selling a dream. Schools football feels like the last place where kids are there purely for the enjoyment of playing and the pride of representing their teams. Schools football should be the pinnacle of junior football again for me.

Anyone remember when Sky Sports showed a final from a Schools District competition circa 1995? Quite a few of my mates were playing in that.

South Tyneside vs Islington, First Leg was 1-1 at Roker Park, I think the return leg was at Highbury where it was 3-0 to Islington, with a Gifton Noel-Williams Hat Trick.

Yes, and a local business stepped in to provide new strips and travel and accommodation.

Couldn't the FA put both teams up at St Georges Park, it is not a million miles away from West Brom & give them the opportunity to use training facilities, what an experience that would be for the young lads! FA needs to get it's head out of it's arse!!

Presumably with their logo on them
yep
Most academys stop kids playing after a certain age. However I do remember reading about St Leonards winning the competition with Embleton and a few other Boro players playing.
TBF academies now tend to let them play.

Pretty sure it was at St Georges for a while, but covid put an end to that with all the England teams using it as a bubble at the time.
