Saudi Arabia wants its investors to own Manchester United and Liverpool

So your againist the club getting success unless its reset to what i can only assume is some 1970s ideal of what the game should be, i mean the reason money came into the game and was welcomed, was simple because liverpool owned the league for years, and the after them it was man utd and arsenal, as you know. i am not againist the money because, it would finally allow us to get into europe, and maybe one day live upto the clubs history pre ww2, and deliver success, don't you fancy adding to those 6 league titles and 2 fa cups ?

Anyone buying a club must understand that the price doesn't include the fans...that is by consent only.

The fact it is being held where it is and the sheer greed/corruption that led FIFA to award to Qatar is sickening.

I realise my small “protest” won’t make a blind bit of difference, but FIFA can fuck right off as well.

They need broken up and replaced with and independent body that are actually interested in protecting and improving the game, rather than lining their own pockets.

Spot on.

States should never be allowed to own clubs. It’s bad enough when an individual pumps money into a club to have them punching above their weight, but once a state gets involved, then you may as well just give them a new trophy and let the rest actually compete for the serious one.

You do realise that two of examples you give in Liverpool & Manchester Utd counter your argument about money being needed to obtain success in the first instance?

The point i was making was its because of the money coming along that made it easier for other teams to get caught up with them, chelsea being the first and then manchester city. without the money no doubt man utd/same with arsneal, would have more titles than it already does to his name, i notice you haven't followed up on this big resent idea, all the same.

Ah yes, that summer tournament the World Cup, being played in the middle of winter, in a country which has one of the worst human rights records in modern times. The last bastion of anti-corruption, shining like an unimpeachable beacon, impervious to Arabian blood money.

I’d argue Blackburn thanks to Jack Walker were the first club post ‘92 and the inception of the PL to “buy” success.

Chelsea (who pre Abramovich) were not really a “big club.” Although they certainly benefited before that from being London based and the TV revenue the PL brought (however didn’t win their first PL title until being bankrolled by Russian money)

As we know Man City being state funded really changed the landscape yet again.

For me the astronomical money involved makes it far more difficult to catch up with the elite. A higher percentage of clubs won the top tier before the PL then since, proving it was more competitive.

No longer can a Shankly, Busby, Ferguson or a Clough use their ability to spot, coach and develop a player. Make a team greater than the sum of it’s parts.

What makes football unique and brilliant in this country is 92 league clubs being able to compete at their respective levels. Not only that, the hope that through the right approach and brilliant management/coaching you can go up through the pyramid and one day compete at the top.

It shouldn’t just be about how much money an oil rich state can throw at it. I’d love to see another Forrest or a Derby go from the 2nd tier to competing in Europe.

That would give every football supporter more hope and enjoyment of building success rather than becoming a sportwashing vehicle for some deplorable state.

Unfortunately, the horse has bolted and a European super league will be next for the super rich clubs to play their exhibition matches in a closed shop.

I just hope the FA have the balls to shut the door behind them and them and let the rest of us get on with it.

Saudi Prince in that interview mentions Messi and Ronaldo a lot and the desire to get Liverpool and Man Utd. He doesn't even acknowledge the mags, almost as if they don't give a monkeys about them.
