Not looking very convincing is he.Think the selectors will give him the remainder of the current series as they should.Consider the patience they showed Root after a striing of failures after his initial promise and should afford the same to Robson you would have thought.Alex Hales and Alex Lees waiting in the wings as alternatives if selectors do decide to eventually drop Robson if fails to perform in last two tests and beyond Im sure.

Hales should have been brought in instead of Robson. You have to be a brilliant player to get away with having such a problem playing stuff on off stump and have a really successful career.

He's had a serious batting deficiency exposed and needs to go away and correct it. Lyth or Hales should be given a chance in the fifth test.

This is his 6th test. He has made a ton, looked steady in parts, but been found out in others. I think you have to give him the remaining test though. No more test cricket until April so after the last test let him play the last couple of county games and work on things over the winter before making a call on who opens when the West Indies squad is selected. Maybe even get him playing some cricket before Christmas, whether it be in Aus/SA or with the Lions.

There is definitely something there as he showed in making a ton. Our successful teams were built on giving new players time to settle in so no reason not to do that with Robson IMO. If next summer he is still nicking off then fair enough but too early for me to write him off.

Would think he will get the next test series WI 2015 and if he fails they may look at Lyth for the pre Ashes/Ashes series..

Lees ahead of Lyth?

Bet Compton wishes he had that many second chances.
He had 9 matches, averaged just under 32, Robson is in his 5th and averaging just over 32. Whilst Robson has an obvious mental/technical flaw in playing at things wide of off, Compton used to get bogged down, grind to a halt then get out.

Neither looks the answer at the moment but if you're going to give someone time to grow into it and develop it's more likely you'd go with the younger player.

Compton: NZ away, India away, NZ home
Robson: SL home, India home

Which are the tougher fixtures?

Cook averaged 58 with Compton, compared to 40 with Strauss. They were a good pairing - right and left, blocker and stroke player.

Moot point anyway as Compo is not in good form for Somerset.

Just having a grumble at the selectors double standards.

Lets not use youth as an excuse for Robson, he is 25, the same age as Lyth and Hales. One of those two must be given a crack in the fifth test.

I don't see how it is double standards, especially given that Robson hasn't been dropped yet. Double standards would be giving Compton all of those 3 series then dropping Robson with one match of this series to go.

My point about age was that there's more chance for Robson to grow into the role and develop as a player than there is Compton. I don't know about Lyth as I haven't seen much of him, Hales is certainly worth a shot though.
