Not his fault per se, but cause and effect. I certainly think he could have left out that the sale could be sooner, and fans would still have had hope. Think more than likely he has been used by the owner, so people stop asking questions for a while

To be fair to these fans, he said the take over is looking to conclude before the season and that the sale could be much sooner. Not everyone is going to have your background and expertise, and will take what he said at face value that we would likely hear something before the season.i personally dont care how long it takes as changing ownership isn't going to change the preparation for this season now

The fact he’s a commentator not a journalist is why he’s getting stick though. He’s stepped out of his lane when Donald wanted to communicate through someone he could manipulate. He shouldn’t be reporting on stuff like this and just stick to commentating. You don’t see Martin Tyler reporting rumours on twitter.

I’ve been saying this all along. Barnes isn’t a reporter so doesn’t have his “sources”. His knowledge of what is going on inside the club comes from the people he gets to interview, in this case it was Donald, so whatever he reports is coming directly from them I.e. whatever the club wants him to report.

it’s not his fault like tbf and he does seem like a nice bloke so he doesn’t deserve any kind of abuse. He’s just allowed Donald to use him, should have been a bit more cautious in dealing with him rather than giving him the easy ride he has done.

I would think so. He was a regular starter in Switzerland and I assume given the likes of Basel are never embarrassed in Europe that it must be of a reasonable standard.
