That's that then.

Is it though.

Without at all suggesting that we would be either willing or able to be creative with this situation, would it not be possible, under the rules GOM has outlined to say to a player:

" Right, we can only offer you £3k a week under the salary cap. We were going to offer you £6k plus a promotion bonus of £200k. However, we can offer a cup bonus. So if we progress through any round in any cup, we can give you , say £200k . "

Maybe? Maybe not. And as we know under the current regime it certainly wont happen here anyway, but I'm sure one of the bigger clubs in the league will try something like it.

Or just take the EFL to court anyway. The bloody thing looks about as legal as armed robbery to me.

Bruce Buck is an American lawyer who is chairman of Chelsea, who are owned by Roman Abramovic,, who is .... erm ..... Russian (or possibly Israeli for visa purposes).

That's all well and good, but this bloke has connections to Trump. Given what might be on the way if Trump loses the election, I think a smart American would be wise to give any Trump associate a swerve.

It all sounds very nice, but there's a definite whiff of bullshit about it. As is often the case with these things, the rumour we're being fed is probably the best case and most exciting scenario anyone could have realistically imagined. I still have my doubts about anyone claiming to have a source this close to the deal.

I'm not convined at all by Magnus....He said Garbutt was close to signing a 3yr deal about a week ago.....I also cannot see a Russian & an American owning the same club, especially with the Russian only having 6%....He's just another itk wannabee getting people's hopes up imho
Russian and American businessmen do many many deals together. Economies are integrated in many ways, as is the UKs.

The only bonuses which don't count towards the cap are those related to progression in cup competitions or promotion. The cap includes basic, bonuses, benefits in kind, expenses, employers NI, and the real killer, agents fees.
Doesnt include second income from other duties. Such as coaching.

Surely we would be hearing a lot more of it if a deal was agreed in principle, probably still have Donald here this time next year

If it was watertight, we'd be hearing nothing at all. A deal agreed in principle is the start point of negotiations, not the end. That would normally precede due diligence. They're often called heads of agreement, but more often than not, it's simply a borad agreement on price.

You have to think that the EFL will absolutely destroy us if we try to circumvent them with stuff like this though. Risk is that we get hung out to dry by them and fucked over because we have tried to be 'clever' and like Alvarez, we pay the price for years to come.

Let's hope whoever is involved with this takeover, it is a full takeover and they are better equipped to manage this situation. Wealth is not going to be as big an issue if this sticks, at least not in League One...

Ahh! Makes sense. So optimism of a deal being done before the start of the season may be misplaced?
