I sometimes think this way, then wonder why if this was the case, Mickey Gray would have piped up somewhere along the line. There just has to be a legal reason why he hasn't been spouting off. I am hoping desperately I am right
This. Not a peep out of him since just before this thread started iirc.
Yes, I get the impression that Gray is involved because he has been silent throughout. Although Gray has been critical of Donald an Co. in the past and that may be why some are saying that Donald isn't keen on a deal with an individual in this group. That’s probably me getting 5 from 2 +2.
That's the impression I got when @rubberface was saying Donald was not keen on dealings with an ex safc player.

I’d honestly rather be a PR vehicle for an oppressive Middle Eastern regime than be owned by this absolutely clown.

Why hasn't Donald come out and said as much? He surely wouldn't give him access to club data if it was obviously the case he was a con man.

Because it's a can of worms that serves no purpose. He may be 90% sure, but why get into a public slanging match (which Storey is clearly gagging for because again, no publicity is bad publicity) about a bid he clearly doesn't believe is legitimate?

If he is who he says he is, there is virtually no reason for Donald to say no to him or enter a period of exclusivity with a worse bid.

Is it? Rodwell's moving up here, and believes the senior staff and players should all live locally. He'll be at BCH or the AoL more than he's not.
Is it normal for a CEO to negotiate with a potential buyer? Aren’t the assets up for sale effectively Donald’s own personally so any negotiations would be with him?

I can understand talking to the CEO as part of due diligence but he’d need to be granted permission for that by Donald.

Or am I just entirely mistaken.

A massive coincidence that two of the clubs hierarchy and a potential suitor for the club all managed to have photos taken in and around the City yesterday. In particular, two images showing the CEO of the Club and Mr Storey in the same location at the same time? Too much of a coincidence for me.
Storey gets wind there's a board meeting yesterday and figures it's time to stir things up and get noticed so he jumps on a train.
Having him in town gives SD/the board an opportunity to put pressure on the other buyers so they send Rodwell to meet him for a very public pint.

Has to be something in it whether he himself has money or not I think it's more about who is backing him who has the money. I don't buy the idea coming all the way to Sunderland in a top and changing to business attire just to gain publicity, even the most insane person wouldn't do that.

Whether he gets the club remains to be seen but I do believe there is something in it, has to be.

It would be normal to talk to a CEO during due diligence, but negotiations would be between teams of advisors to both sides of the bid. I'm thinking this was just a meeting to either show courtesy, or else to tell him it's time to put up or shut up. You wouldn't normally talk serious business in the public areas of a hotel restaurant; business dinners, when they do happen, will be in private dining areas.

I don'tr buy that... Its too complicated for the owners

As ridiculous as that may sound, i'm actually of the opinion that this is what has happened.

Again, I think this is exactly why he's doing it. This man has built his entire world on exaggerating who he is and this is a golden opportunity to get his name out there for not scamming F1 teams. What do you reckon he has going on apart from this? What is more important than this one off opportunity? I reckon this is easy pickings for him.

Or make sure that you retain the job you've just taken on. It sounds from the snippets we've had that the other party will be refusing to work with Donald so maybe/probably his job is at risk. It is possibly beneficial to his career not to have Gray and Co.

Agreed. I'll be amazed if he has good backers who actually want to entrust him with spending millions of quid. As you say, anyone now googling Storey sees a load of stuff about him trying to buy Sunderland, speaking to the media about it. In short, being taken seriously. All of a sudden you see one of the photos of him next to an expensive car that he doesn't own and you assume its his. He's a bloke negotiating to buy a football club, of course that will be his Lamborghini. The illusion of success.

This is great for him. Its also very useful for Donald. No one sensible will pay his asking price, but he can keep this bloke around, make it look like he's serious, and it suggests that maybe his price is right, because Storey will pay it. He might randomly, against everything we've seen, be the real deal. But until he's actually in the driving seat to buy the club I'll assume this is a mutually beneficial arrangement for Donald and Storey, hence the ridiculously public meeting when they've got a git massive stadium with loads of rooms sitting there unused
