Salah Aged 22

We spent about 10 mil on Wickham though?
ÂŁ8m
To be fair Wickham was one of the highest rated young strikers in England at the time. His potential just didn't progress and we managed to get a good fee back for him. I can remember when he went on that good run of form in one of the great escape seasons and he looked very good but doing it for just half a dozen games is no good.
Good player, bad attitude.

He was up for the Ballon d'Or when we signed him. Was one of the players of the tournament at the world cup.
He was a good standard PL footballer and joining off the back of a solid World Cup, but was in no way one of the best players in the world.

Enjoyable player though. Shame he pissed off to take the cash.

Only because Short only gave him a fraction of the sales fees to use. It was clearly reported at the time.

It was his choice to sell Bent and sign another two centre halves after already signing about 4. Selling Bent for what we did also meant we had to cough up more to Spurs at that point - we didn't just get him for 10.5m.

Wickham was up to 12m as well.
Garner 6m.

We invested most of what came in after doing so the previous season as well. Our fees for paying agents went up to over 5m quid at that time for a season too.

As with everywhere he goes funds get invested, then he takes a gamble, then he sells, then another gamble - it always leaves unbalanced squads and less and less quality.

Kilgallon said on the Under the Cosh podcast he was signed and before he'd even played a game Bruce told him he wasn't in his plans and to find another club, think that sums up the Bruce era.

He went on to massive things did Kilgallon.

That is rubbish. Bent made the decision to leave.
