SAFC Milk Cup Heroes Reunite For 40th Anniversary Celebration

Was in the RAF in London at the time and went to every game in the run, was convinced we’d win at Wembley as we’d beaten some good teams on the way, Europe here I come. Still haven’t forgiven Clive ‘Baldy’ Walker, wouldn’t have got into Europe either as British teams banned next season 🤷‍♂️
Ashurst dropping west for Wallace, unforgiveable
Westy would have taken the penalty as well

Few bricks through our coach window on way. Got into Wembley just as the teams came out for more misery. Coach broke down on way home near Leicester. Got home at 8:00 the next morning. Mind I did get the day off school.

Was that bus from Stanley way? Mates were in same bus if that's the case.

What’s to celebrate we were abysmal that day, probably our worst ever Wembley performance ☹️
That's the wrong term but there is something in remembering the journey there, especially the quarter and semi-finals. Turner was superb. The match itself was a real let down (first time at Wembley for me and I just thought it was a shit heap withvweeds and peeling paint everywhere) but loads to say about the day. Hodgson is an interesting character. It's not like it's a civic reception with Ian Wallace there. A significant moment in our history and I don't think there has been much heard from Turner about his Sunderland days.
