SAFC Milk Cup Heroes Reunite For 40th Anniversary Celebration

Main memories of that day:

- seeing a Norwich flag outside Wembley that read "Bruce Eats Walkers".
- seeing a Sunderland flag that read "Black cats eat canaries".
- the penalty miss.
- "You'll Never Walk Alone" at the end. Fuck me, I've never felt so proud and emotional being a Sunderland fan.
Best part of that day was our fans stopping back for the cup presentation and dominating proceedings with incredible backing…. What was it we were singing
No clubs fans would do that now
We were unequalled for blind loyalty back then.

The game at Chelsea in the second leg of semi was easily worst experience as a fan.

Dropping West was easily worst management decision of my life

You'll Never Walk Alone.
I was there too. We had a terrible team then with Wallace and Howard Gayle up top.
Wallace pen miss was the turning (or turning) point)
Long journey for a shit result. At least when I saw Swindon beat us we saw a subsequent turn of fortune

Clive Walker, surely?

I was a kid and it was my first time seeing us (on tv) in a final, and i was so disappointed I can still remember how it felt now. Missing the penalty was gut wrenching.

Turns out we would be routinely dog shit every time we went to Wembley for ever after!! (I know we broke the curse more recently).

Was in the RAF in London at the time and went to every game in the run, was convinced we’d win at Wembley as we’d beaten some good teams on the way, Europe here I come. Still haven’t forgiven Clive ‘Baldy’ Walker, wouldn’t have got into Europe either as British teams banned next season 🤷‍♂️
Snap. I too was in the RAF at the time. Managed to get two tickets for my wife and me from a friend of a friend. Turned out to be in the Norwich end.
