Ryhope Tournament Years Back

My brother organised these tournaments for the council. Good stories about the overseas teams. But can’t remember these now

I worked on them. Sevilla came one year. A little winger Carlos Dominguez was player of the tournament and or top scorer. He went on to have a decent career for Sevilla and Mallorca. Their forward caught shoplifting in the Galleries didnt.

I worked on one of them in ‘94. Looked after the Chile team, some of them went on to decent careers. One was already a soap star.
It all kicked off against the Sunderland team , descended into complete chaos up at the colliery ground.

This fella Morales played for Real Madrid at Silky. Played a couple of times in first team then played all over

The Spanish equivelent of Steve Claridge by the looks of it.

It got moved to ryhope for a year when the silky pitches were water logged.

I also remember a bit of a heat wave turned the grass at Silky brown so they sprayed it green.
