Ruthlessness in improving the team for the Premier League

Jobe’s development from his first season to his second was an exceptional but I always thought his lack of pace would be his limiting factor that would stop him getting to the top.
I would love for him to really push on and prove me wrong with that.
I thought Jobes progression in the years he was here was excellent. I thought he was outstanding in the playoff final when he just did the simple things, tidied up and played the ball to ten yards to one of our players. He made some great interceptions as well.

What used to frustrate me about him the most was that he would travel forward with the ball and and get into a really good position but then turn back and play it short. He did that a couple of times in the final as well. It was as though he didn’t want to try and play a defence splitting pass in case he lost it or misplaced it. It was either all about his pass completion rate to help improve his stats to help him move on or he just didn’t have the confidence/ability to do it. That was one part of his game I always thought was weak and needed to massively improve.

Would he have started this season in the Premier League, not sure. Definitely had the potential though IF he added that killer/defence splitting pass to his game.
 

Diara to date has operated at a higher level than Jobe and captained a team in the French top flight. Jobe went for 33m, Diarra went for 30m euros so not a huge difference three. They are both highly coveted, young midfielders.

Lee Fee is in mid 20s, approaching his prime. A different type of player but IMO better overall than Jobe currently. Then hopefully there's going to be Xhaka who is accomplished.

I'm not saying Jobe wouldn't have started for us, but he'd have had a proper fight on his hands and wouldn't have been guaranteed to play every minute like did when he was here.
But that’s the difference, the op confidently stated that Jobe wouldn’t have started for us, and I don’t agree.

Sure he may not have been such a pivotal player for us as he was last year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he is a first team starter next year for Dortmund.

Though he was a very skilled footballer and a very athletic one too, his mental fortitude and tenacity were two traits that I think made him imperative to our team last year.
 
Move on Jobe has gone, he didn’t want to even spend a season with us in the PL!

We’ve made some good signings but we need more for sure. If we don’t sign a proven striker for this level I think we will really struggle we can’t rely on Mayenda and Wilson I don’t believe. And yes 2 CBs and ideally an upgrade on Patterson. That’s another £100m I’m not sure if we have that after the Xhaka deal.
 
There's no sentiment in any big business imo, football clubs included. If you run a business based on sentiment you won't get very far.
I agree to an extent, but football clubs aren't the same as big businesses, there are a number of things that differ from, say a BA, a M&S or an Amazon for instance.

Inelasticity of demand is the first obvious one - it's rare customers (fans) move to competitors, however they do sometimes stop consuming the product altogether on occasion. M&S food shoppers would move to another food shop. However, demand can be elastic over longer periods of time if you produce poor quality. But cubs have lower elasticity that others (us, Mags etc)

Second: it's rarely about the product quality and often about the feels. That leads to a totally different marketing strategy. You're not selling a product, you're selling an emotion.

Lastly, and this is where I think sentiment absolutely DOES come in to it - your customers set their own identity based on your business. If we were Apple, we'd be buying Apple tops and clothing, and travelling the world to visit Apple Stores and following the lives of Apple employees on social media. That's sounds bonkers when you put it into business terms, which is why we aren't the same as a big business. There's an identity that this in with customers and they have to be happy enough to associate with that identity. That's where sentiment does come in to it - but mainly in the marketing, and how you connect with the customers. And the club got it spot in last season with TilTheEnd, btw.
