Russell Martin has Ross Stewart as his main target **Transfer confirmed **

It’s been interesting, watching the fall out from this one. I wonder how many that are upset with him being sold would be happy with us paying £12m for a striker who’s 27 years old, has made 13 appearances in a league above L1 standard, is in the last year of his contract, hasn’t played for 8-9 months, and is currently injured?

He only wanted away when he realised we how tight we were with our contract offers.

All the noises from Stewart’s camp were that he was happy to stay, we just wouldn’t offer him what he wanted wage wise.
Strange that Mowbray came out and said his agent thinks he's representing Mbappe and that we'd made him a good offer. Speakman said we were negotiating with him when he was injured long term so I'm not sure he was in the ideal position to be asking for much more.

Certainly not me. We know how good he can be but he's still to consistently prove it at our level and has barely kicked a ball for a year.

All of this very accurate stuff aside, it’s clear the lad can cut it at this level and maybe higher. He’s a natural goal scorer.

It’s his injuries id be most concerned about aye. Not a good record and no reason to think it won’t happen again

IF, and it’s a huge if, he bangs them in at Southampton having regained full fitness, it’ll be the usual drivel on here.

Let’s not forget they have premier league infrastructure, medical team AND players still.

We’d been negotiating with him way before he got injured.

When fit he’s clearly one of the best strikers in the league, it’s just a shame we weren’t prepared to make an exception to keep him as well as strengthening a promotion rival in the process.

Saying that I’m not so sure the latter applies now as I can’t see us getting anywhere near top 6 this year, not with how competitive the league is and how strong some of the other squads look.

Anyway, time to move on from Stewart.

I'm a bit gutted, I could have lived with it if we'd gotten in someone with a bit of a relevant track record, doesn't look like that's happening.

That’s very fair to be fair !

Aye this. But injuries sometimes just won’t go away no matter what. Let’s see
Yeah. I’m not entirely convinced his best days aren’t behind him tbh. Everything here all clicked at the same time, but the lad was interesting anyone until we took a plunge. What I’m saying is there’s so many variables, either way. And I just don’t want to see the usual “Speakman this”, we’d be promoted if he stayed that”

Don’t see how we could marra without spending a lot of money.

It’s right though, he has very few games at championship level. He’s a gamble

Agreed it’s a risky transfer imo. Could easily go either way.
