Russell Martin has Ross Stewart as his main target **Transfer confirmed **

I take your point, but "down here" after four seasons in League One, doesn't feel that low, where we are.

You think we will continue to get 40k attendees if the ambition to get out of the league isn’t shown?
Amy decent kids who actually have made a difference will be off if they don’t see a push for promotion imo.
It’s a very fine line and at the moment despite not selling anyone who we could sell we sit look like we have improved the squad from last season.

Its thurdsday today man, have faith in Kyrilsy he will splash the cash.

I thought Ross was just as good as Gyokeres, and I won’t say better to avoid bias.

They got £20.5 for Gyokeres - but I don’t know his contract situation and I doubt he was injured.
We have to take those aspects into account and hopefully we get the 10m that sky reckon we want.

Gutted he’s leaving though, he really is a brilliant player. Still stand by the thought that we would’ve been in a right battle with SheffU for that 2nd spot had Stewart been available all season.

I’m guessing the reason they havn’t responded yet is because they are looking at alternatives first

That would be the sensible and logical thing to do.

Knowing us though we’ll prob look, see that all appropriate alternatives cost more than £3 million, give up and sell him anyway! 🙄😂
That would be the professional thing to do mate but...

Exactly! 😂

Assuming Rusyn signs, sell Stewart now for £9-10M. Hopefully a good PL loanee + ideally Diallo back on loan in january.

As for operating losses, yes iirc circa £6-7M in 2021/22 but we ought to have at least broken even last season with increased turnover of perhaps around £9M from increased PL solidarity, circa 22 tv appearances + further increased hospitality revenue re the gigs, costs such as wages will have been up but not significantly. Assuming the owners don't want to take back what they've put in to date then any player trading gains now should hopefully be largely available for transfers in.

Imagine the scenes if we sell him with an hour to go without bringing in a replacement. Wonder if Speakman would do one of his post transfer window podcasts this time.

He’s a natural goalscorer up there with Kevin Phillips and Jermaine Defoe and yet we are going to allow him to leave to join a supposed competitor. I say supposed because if we are doing business like this and making such a little attempt to keep quality footballers like Ross Stewart, there are clearly no immediate ambitions to get back to the premier league. That’s fair enough, we are at least nailing our colours to the mast with this transaction and I suppose expectations are being managed accordingly.

"We conducted our pre-mortem and the financial package just made sound financial intelligence - besides, Bellingham and Brad are here with a growth mentality in mind and we proceed with laser focus".

We will get a replacement no one will agree it is a replacement however, it will be on loan and we will get the ‘difficult market for this type of player, couldn’t quite get a perm deal done etc etc

You say little attempt but he and his agent have supposedly turned down good contract offers from safc in the past.

“Supposed competitor” is absolutely accurate when you consider they have tens of millions in parachute payments and have brought in 150m in transfer fees. How are we supposed to compete with that?

People on here seem to think we can just magic up money because we are well supported. We are at this moment in time a loss making concern and that’s a reality some people refuse to face.

If we sold Clarke, Ballard and Ekwah to fund transfers people would be up in arms, where do they think the money is supposed to come from?

Agree entirely with the spirit of what you're saying. I'm not so sure we will currently be loss making though, or last season. Breaking even maybe at best though still so doesn't change the thrust of your argument.
