Rushy - Tribute from The Cricketer

The main reason he and Bunny (and Simon Brown for that matter) got 500 county wickets is the twatty selectors passing over our players! I don't agree with Harmison that this won't happen again!

he probably said the same when onions became our leading wicket taker like.

in fairness given the uncertain future of cricket generally, he's probably sadly right, just more through luck than judgement

Didnt realise Harmy took 450+ for Durham mind given he had a hellish stint for England and was frozen out by Durham once he packed in international cricket.

some going. Can never recall him being Brown / Rushworth / Onions level prolific.

I thought he was crocked with his back?

I remember a lot of grumbling about him picking up his wages to sit on his arse on here!
Was all a bit dodgy. iirc He was given a stupidly long ans lucrative deal off DCCC and half way through it it was evident he was only 1/3 of the player. Recall there being quite a few rumors and that he was frozen out. Others will recall better.

Harmison had a couple of great seasons with DCCC when England dropped him in 2008 and 2009. Once he was given a long-term contract he was never quite the same but giving a 32 year old fast bowler and long-term contract was never a bright idea. Harmison was never built for longevity and had an awkward action, he was never going to see that contract out as a first-team player.

In terms of overall career, he is likely to go down as DCCC's best bowler but personally I think Onions is the most skilled bowler we've had, with Rushy a close second.
