Running Thread 2026

Looking at all the videos and photos today from my friends in London, I hate that my brain is now trying to ignore the pain of training and the race ....and thinking I'm jealous

I'm in the ballot for London so when I said never again, I probably mean till next year 🤣 when I find a London replacement when I don't get in.

Feel I can do better and I have unfinished business, running definitely isn't normal 🤣

Had a bit of a cold all weekend and my sinuses are blocked, but still forced myself to go out for a run after the school run was done. Somehow managed to bag my second fastest 10k, even though I'm not very well

Ran walked 18.5 miles around London yesterday with 6 miles added in the bike.....and I don't even get a medal 🤣.
Seriously a great day. The weather meant everything was much busier than when I did it in 2023. A fab event. Don't think next year will be the same with the two day palava.

Injuries - pain in the arse, or knee as it is currently. I have had piriformis syndrome before, so that literaly was a pain in the arse and a bloody annoying one. This knee is giving me some jip. Not ran since Thursday, plenty of s&c on it though. Ging to give it a few more days I think.

Didn't realise it was the Gateshea 10k/HM/M this weekend, possibly tempted to stick myself down for the 10k/H< - anybody else doing it?

Also any instant healing techniques for my meniscus injury would be welcome...

Amputation works a treat, or so I've heard 😅
Would save me about £200 a moth on running stuff too!
Absolutely hate having a niggle. I’m addicted to running and it’s being taken away from me 😂 cold showers and walking just isn’t the same

Same for me at the minute, think it's more annoying cos my issue isn't debilitating or anything. I could quite easy go out for a run now but I know it's not for the best in the long term haha. Meant to be having a little jog with some mates on Wednesday so that'll be the first tester, bought an IT Band strap to put on. Been for a swim today just to get some cardio in, I'm much more comfortable on land haha was getting outpaced by big old women in the pool 😅

I rarely go swimming and whenever I do I realise about 100m in why I don’t. Damn it’s hard!

Not to make this about me but 2 years ago I started swimming front crawl. I remember stopping every 25m out of breath. I swim 20km a month now, swam 3km on Friday alone. It was an incremental thing, 25 metres to 50, 50 to 100, 100 to 200 and so on.

Its hugely improved my knees. I did my cruciates twice, i still ran 8 marathons but I was always have meniscus issues. Swimming has sorted it out. Swimming is 100% transformative, its hard to get into but it becomes almost addictive. Its really rewarding the more you improve. I couldn't recommend it higher

Blimey! A 3k swim sounds so tough but then again so did an Ultra just a few years ago and I’ve done one of those. Consistency is key as you allude to.

Don’t even know where my nearest swimming pool is in Houghton.

Probably Hetton or Washy everyone active places. Good form of cross training is swimming. The local triathlon clubs are canny for swimming sessions, Sun city tri have a development lane with dedicated coaches

100% consistency. When i started all I cared about was getting to the end and back. No i just think about my technique and breathing. If you can get to the Aquatic on Saturday you can swim the 50m pool. Its a lot better than swimming 25m. Its daunting the first times I attempted it i had to finish by doing breaststroke as I couldn't complete the whole thing doing front crawl but I stuck in and once you can do multiple 50m lengths you can feel the difference.
Im lucky, I live near the Aquatic and as I dont have kids i can pretty much come and go as I please but I appreciate that swimming does require a little more commitment than other exercises.

Well done on the ultra mind. Marathons were more than enough for me. Massive respect for anyone who could do more.

I can do front crawl, but cannot get comfortable breathing rhythm going to keep it up over any distance. Surprisingly tiring is swimming, but like any endurance the more regularly you manage it with an aim on mind the easier it becomes to go a bit further.
