Running Thread 2026

And I’d say on the whole people don’t treat it as a race and those who do are usually respectful of others. Belittling those “who aren’t even doing 6 minute pace” just comes across as bitter.
The first ever Parkrun I did (Sedgefield) someone physically grabbed hold of my finishing chip and swapped it with his at the finishing line. I didn't know what was going on and thought he was joking on at first.

I'm up to about 150 parkruns and, yes there's the odd person that lacks awareness , but I've only witnessed really poor behaviour once when someone couldn't count his laps and started on an extra run before turning round. I was tailwalking and he was verbally abusive to the finish marshalls and me on his way out as obviously it was our fault he couldn't count 🤣. Generally a great crowd at parkrun.. I've made some great friends. Think I might have started this parkrun chat by saying CLS was my least favourite as it's so busy .I still love it and it's no reflection on the volunteers or runners, it's just so popular.

That’s just crazy 😂 I need to know more, I assume you finished ahead of them?

Wow 😂 some people are just naturally berks, in any form of life.

CLS is very popular and I can understand why it wouldn’t be some people’s favourite due to the congestion. My gripe was mainly around the comment on here (not by you) about people running faster than others (not racing). Not to restart the discussion, that’s just naturally going to happen at any parkrun.

Anyway….. Quayside 5k coming up a week on Wednesday, never done it before. Any experiences of it on here?

I finished 1 place ahead of him. I thought I knew him at first (he had a wooly hat on) so I wasn't that sure either way and when he did that I thought it was the lad I was thinking of and he was joking on. But then I realised I didn't know him and he was being serious.

My wife is event director at Whitley bay and i volunteer once per month where we regularly reach 650+ runners and 99% of them are behaved.

We did recently have 1 runner who was always doing one lap and finishing in top 10 then posting on social media about how good they were.

My wife wasn't that bothered as they were only cheating themselves but she had a quiet word as Marshalls were furious

People are strange. Why on earth would you do that. I'd be fuming if I was another top 10 runner. I know it's not a race but if you trying your hardest you don't want to be cheated by someone.
Thank you to your wife and you for your help volunteer contribution. I try to keep 10,% ratio on critical roles.

Really flat and is advertised as a PB course. My 21 year old son did it last year as he wanted to break sub 20 - which he managed.

Although he is now sub 19 in parkrun which is so annoying as I cant get anywhere near him now

Our lass is desperate for a Blaydon Race place, if anybody can't do it and doesn't mind transferring, once the portal is open, let me know and we'll send the money over/sort it out.

It's on the day before she turns 40 so she wants it as part of her birthday celebrations

Not long till Manchester now. Dont feel ready if im honest but going to go and get it anyway. Parking at old trafford and making my way from there. Any tips from those who have gone before?
You’ll be fine mate. The crowds will pull you through

I've signed up for the Northumberland Coastal Run at the end of July. I'm going to make a weekend of it - I've booked an Airbnb in Lesbury, just outside Alnwick.

I'm going to visit Alnwick Castle on the Friday and open to Saturday suggestions, but thinking Bamburgh Castle?

TIA.

I'm training for the Sunderland half marathon, and by training aI mean trying to gt around without my calf or hamstring going, I have a 13K long slow run coming up tomorrow and I live SHiney way can anyone recommenda a run of this type of length or a site that has local runs that I can use, I'm getting sick of running aroun Lambton / Elba park way - cheers

Done the Park Run in Poznan at Easter Weekend, got talking to a lad who lives in Plymouth who was from Doxy Park. Small world.

Great course, takes you through a lovely park with some WW2 tanks.

Through HCP, past Stackyard, up through East Herrington and take the track behind Doxy International to Burdon, through Burdon Woods and back towards Shiney Row.

Cheers I'll get that mapped out I know the first few but need to do some google to find the track behind doxy to get to Burdon - thanks for your help

Yeah, everyday for Jan. Started with just under 3km, gradually built up to 6km and then back down again as we neared the end. Never done a parkrun yet, I coach my little lads team on Saturdays and Sunday are matchdays.
Advanced onto a weekly 10km run with my mate. Think the next milestone is 15km hopefully by June time. Really enjoy getting out, sets me up for the day ahead. And my legs are as solid as a rock

Are all the Manchester Marathoners ready, my bag is already packed and I've spent the morning on Google Maps working out where is best to park to avoid road closures?

Or get into lambtons estate down onto the path along the river next to the new bridge and head along the river towards the viaduct. Keep going along the river to Cox green, go up to the lines and back along to Shiney via biddick woods
Pier to Pier this Sunday - conditions looking ok. Wish I felt the same about my condition!
Just take it easy, I never race it, I'm always too knackered from the start 😂
