Rumours about our nearest & dearest trying to get into the Wolves game

This thread
Considering the resident mags seem to be dissing the notion that their backward fans are gonna attend this game, they’ve got their knickers in a right twist on the subject.

Ended up arguing with themselves.

I know brothers, one supports Newcastle and the other Sunderland, if they didn't converse with each other I think it might spoil Christmas for them.

Me too. My mates brother is a mag. Said he was converted at school during the Keegan years. Fuck knows how they let that happen when my mate and his dad are as red and white as you can get.

What's your problem with Christmas?
I used to enjoy it, especially when I was in the army, I've taken a different view towards it since I got married though. Dread it every year, the Christmas tree normally doesn't get as far as boxing day before the wife has slung it across the room, always something to do with her side of the family not mine, hence I f***ing hate it.

Sounds like christmas isn't the problem here

It's quite common in the towns of County Durham, many kids support the team that their mates do so it's reasonably common for families that are split when it comes to the team they support.

Personally, I can' accept that Virgins have babies.
Millions of Catholics would be appalled :)

I always thought your dad takes you to your first game when you're a bairn, and from then on, that's your team.
In places like Newcastle and Sunderland that's nearly always true. My dad is a die hard Newcastle fan, he took me to my first game, all the lads I grew up with were Newcastle fans apart from the odd tosser that went for Man U or Liverpool so there was never any conflict. The same I imagine will be the case for the vast majority of people in Sunderland.

Move out to somewhere like Consett and you get a bit of conflict. If your dad has little interest in football then you are probably going to support the same team as your friends which could be either or.
Even if your dad supports one side then if all your mates support another when you are young you might not support the same team as your dad.

My dad didn't like football until Keegan came to Newcastle as a manager, and since then he's told everybody he's a lifelong fan

Nah, your first game is for free when you help clear the straw from the pitch.
Kids might once again get that chance when Bain turns the under soil heating off. There again he might charge for the privilege.
