Roy Keane

Not at all. To be honest I'm far from convinced that Keane would be the right appointment anyway, the big takeaway for me from his Overlap interview with Gary Neville was that his bemusement at buzzwords like "philosophy" coming up in job interviews suggests that he would find it very difficult to work alongside someone like Speakman.

As for the thread, it's Speakman who is getting an absolute battering but KLD is getting off scot free for now for some reason. Have been deeply unimpressed with KLD so far even before this whole fiasco and he has massively fanned the flames regarding Keane by liking those posts on Instagram so if it's anyone other than Keane now it will go down like a lead balloon and he will largely be to blame. The whole thing seems unprofessional beyond belief IMO and the previous regime would have been getting pelters under similar circumstances.
As long as you're consistent then I have no issue with any of that even though I don't necessarily share your opinion. My frustration is with those that were heralding KLD and Speakman as saviours this time last week but calling them worse than shite today (mainly because they have the need to lash out at someone for Saturday and we don't have a manger to take the flack).

Agreed on Keane. I didn't know he'd said that in the Neville interview. Encapsulates my reservations entirely although I think the Keane appointment is needed now.

Hope that's not the thinking. Cringeworthy if so.

We are a football club under pressure to throw the kitchen sink at promotion to get out of this tinpot league ASAP - we aren't a boyband or a reality TV show whipping up suspense ffs.
I didn't say we were. I'm certainly no expert but it seems to me that increasingly football clubs are using signings in precisely this way. Let's wait & see what happens. In fact, we have no choice but to wait & see what happens, whether we like it or not, ha, ha.

I think the media commitments could be the only hold up? Only thing I can think of

I’d expect him to want an assistant and at least 1 coach of his choice to start with. We’ve clearly got problems and he will want people he trusts with him. I’m reasonably sure he can walk away from his media commitments quite easily but an assistant and coach are more likely to be in employment with another club.

Because they had 4 blokes in charge with zero credentials to be taking a game of that magnitude.
If they at least had an u23s manager in place, someome used to dealing with men's football team selection it would have been prefereable. Surely, that's one of the main reasons of having a DoF - maintaining continuity when managers depart?

that's the trouble with the club at present tho, according to KLD there was a highly skilled team to take charge of Saturday's game, yea certainly looked like it

In any role we can all sit back and take the plaudits when its going well. When it turns to shit you need to step up to the mark, be proactive, be assertive and get the best resolution within set timescales. When it comes to football, timescales are measured in games. We've already dropped 3 points, and lets not forget, maybe if he had have employed an U23 coach when Dickman walked in October just a mere 3 months ago, he may have had a suitable person to take the job temporarily. We have literally employed a substitute's substitute to take first team affairs in what is the most important part of the season
Speakman needs to wake up or fuck off

Not sure that anyone on here will have the answer but did we approach Keane or did he apply for a vacant position?
Two different scenarios which would I imagine determine who was doing the negotiating and who was in a position to play hard ball?

I know nothing about the footie business, but i do know a thing or two about big business in general having been involved in sales and mergers over the years. I suspect that Roy has been made an initial offer, which is in the hands of his solicitor. The club want to make sure that any counter offer (there will be one) is proportionate, so they come out publicly to let him know that there are other options they were still looking at. This also helps with the other candidates publicly because IF Roy turns us down, or the club are unwilling to meet his demands, they don't look like messy seconds. I would imagine, based on the body language from him and his TV buddies over the weekend that he will agree the offer and take over sometime today/tomorrow. He seemed very excited to me for Roy Keane. Just my thoughts though.

Yeah that's true, I suppose. Especially if the rumours are true he wants Andy Reid who's currently coaching the u23s at forest?

All the itk fellas have all disappeared when we need them most. Nothing on 606. Either.
The real itks have disappeared because the SAFC boardroom and upper echelons are no longer populated by SAFC fans and people born and/or living in the NE. That info conduit, whether deliberately fed or accidently leaked to friends or family has gone. Even the local papers not local anymore and the NE print/tv/radio journos are almost 100% mags.

Any leaked gossip would be more likely mulled over in Montevideo, Monaco, Geneva, Oxford or France than Wearside, Durham or Tyne and Wear nowadays. Leaks from the other end of any deal would be in Nottingham, Cork or Dublin which again aren’t big on SAFC obsessives likely to spill the beans and risk the wrath of Roy.

I hear nowt from up there mesel. Owt itk I do hear is from down here and it’s got very little to do with SAFC.

The frustration towards Speakman comes from the fact that we are dithering, f***ing around, with Roy Keane. The other options have been well documented, they have been interviewed. They do not compare to Keane. So there's the frustration. It's because it should be so simple. Keane should be number 1 choice and this should have been sorted by now. Regardless of results recently, or even how well anyone might think we've done in the transfer window, this whole 'process' has been utterly infuriating. I am actually one of the people who think up until now Speakman has done a good job. I like the way the recruitment of players has changed. I know he's doing good work in other areas of the club too and cares about different age groups. However, I do not understand why it's taking so long to get Keane sorted. Still hoping for the correct outcome, and hoping it's soon. Get it done.
It largely comes from us losing a game we should of won on Saturday and falling away from automatic promotion
