Roy Keane

Also, you think Dan Neil for example sees him as the angry man off the telly, rather than one of the greatest midfielders of the premier league? Absolute nonsense. Footballers respect top level achievements , regardless of generation.
This. Imagine the likes of Embo and Neil playing for him. They'd (probably) be willing to run through brick walls to impress one of the best of a generation for his position

I think any manager would struggle with our unbalanced squad. For all the stats and the power speak, we've ended up with a squad with five specialist defenders and two strikers.
What do you mean by struggle though? We're third with the top two to play.
When we play well we play better than any time since the promotion season with Keano.
The challenges are just:
1. To learn to hold on to a lead
2. To play better away from home
3. To beat Wigan and Rotherham
We're not exactly shite compared to the other teams in the league

Keane is not right in the head for managment. I believe he would put as many players off than he would attract. What has he really done? One promotion based on bullying.
Keane got us promoted and then kept us up. He will lift the full club, as someone else said this club thrives on waves of momentum. Might not last forever but it’s better than another lower league plodder like Parkinson or Johnson, even Ross. What did they achieve?

Your not allowed mate to put up a reasonable statement totally agree we you. How about looking abroad or for a younger up coming coach.

Load of rubbish, we have 17 games left this season to try and get promoted. We have in my view the technically most gifted squad in the division. But what we lack is mental strength and clarity. Which is why the Head Coach needs to be someone who can lead and motivate.

What people seem to forget about Keane's first spell is the context behind his achievements, when he came in the club was on the floor, the feel good factor from the SOL move and the Peter Reid days had evaporated, we were on the bottom, crowds had consistently been low for since the 19 point season and we'd just had the body blow of a second record low points relegation season. We'd had an uninspiring transfer window and lost our first five games, the club was literally on the bones of it's arse. Keane came in and made the city believe again and lit a fire under the place, we were suddenly box office again for mainly the right reasons, in national headlines because of Keane and the turn around, he bought well in the first season and the belief he brought back was fantastic. We scored a bucket load of late winners and created a team in his never say die image.

If he hadn't come in, our wilderness years could have happened long ago, in the Premier League he spent a lot of money for the time, but he had to pay a premium on players because who would want to come to a club who had recently had TWO record low relegations? That Spurs game at the time was magical, a reminder that we do belong in the Premier League, banishing the ghosts of previous seasons and through spirit, and determination we stayed up that year. Sure, his final season was a bit of a disaster, but he won the Championship with us after taking over when we were bottom, kept us in the Premier League for the first time since 2002, beat the Mags at home for the first time in 28 years and made the club and the city believe in itself again. I'm not saying he'll work out this time, but let's not rewrite history to minimise his impact from his first spell.

I think Keane would get the Lge 1 job done, as he did last time in the Championship. After automatic promotion from league 1, a season of consolidation in the Championship, then he the problems would start, he would get bored, over familiar or start pissing people off. Its the nature of the man, Great short term appointment, but not long term. A good assistant, who could later pick up the reins would be key for long term success, but as a quick fix, I think he would be an excellent appointment.

What proof do you have promotion was based on bullying?

I've heard loads of stories of players at the time and none mention bullying. Top man management though.

Out of interest are you one who rates Di Canio? That was management by fear and bullying
Yeah Chris Brown on the Under the Cosh podcast said about Keane's man management with him over the whole video thing was stellar.

It’s absolute bollocks to suggest our promotion was based on bullying. Plenty of players that worked under him at the time have been full of praise for him. He drove the standards up here when he first came in. Every manager in the game will have players that would’ve disliked them but the vast majority of people that have commented on their time under him have been full of praise.
