Roy Keane

If that player has had success at this level or higher before, then yes i would prefer them. Keane is a massive risk. If he hadn't have managed sunderland previously and had simply been out of the game for 15 years, no one would be clamouring for him. It's the equivalent of Charlton going back in for Curbishley, it's a huge gamble. I like Keane, but i'd genuinely rather someone like Neil who has achieved something recently in management.
How’s he been out the game for 15 yrs man he was coaching Republic of Ireland about 4-5 yrs ago

Was starting to like him after baiting the terrorists but he can piss off now

To be fair every time Gabby opens his mouth on Talksport he just sounds like one of those typical arrogant biased slightly thick ex footballers ! wouldn't care for anything he says about anything really, what he says on Keane just strikes of not being anywhere near his level of ability or mentality for me !

I think you probably know, but anyway ....

A lot has happened in the 15 years since Keane left Sunderland - whole careers have come and gone, not just here but in football in general.

Tactics have evolved, players attitudes and there influences towards a club have changed.

Even the most successful teams, currently Man City and Liverpool, evolve and change a winning team and formula because if you stand still in football, you end up being overtaken.

Would Keane have the same aura now that he had immediately after he retired ?

Will the likes of Doyle respond to someone he has only read about in the same way that Nosworthy responded back in 2006/7 ?

Does Keane have the exact hunger he showed back then ?

People change and so does football
Exactly right. The DOF structure we have in place is the right thing to do, but can Keane work within that. We have a young squad, can he develop young players?
He was an excellent motivator and we played games to the end with him, great. Can he still motivate without destroying youngsters but have mellowed enough to "fit in".
I don't know but I like the idea of the Keane character being here.

Now to be honest, I don't think Keane had any problems with Malbranque, Ferdinand, McCartney or the biggest of them all Cissé - Djib clearly had a decent bond with him. The problem children always looked to be Chimbonda - who never looked quite sure he wanted to be here - and Diouf. Now both of these lads performed very well in the derby - Diouf woulda been a decent alternative shout for MOTM. Quality wise, Chimbonda was our best right back of the Premier League era for me, but there was obviously a disciplinary issue there. But the whole thing seemed to upset the makeup of the dressing room more than anything. It was some of the lads who'd gotten us there that were getting the brunt. Whitehead probably a case in point whereby things were becoming strained.

I'm not sure if personality clashes were the problem with the new signings or Keane's struggles to mould a team out of them, there were plenty of jokes about him using a lottery for the selection and I remember his substitutions being odd towards the end.

That said I'd have him back for the level we're at now, no doubt.

He's blatantly one of the Villa players that Keane was talking about in the Neville interview - shit bloke, shit professional, talked down to staff in the club, achieved nothing.
"I'm not talking to you, I'm talking to the Manager"

Who the fuck does he think he is?

Didn't Agbonlahor down tools and fake injuries as he watched his beloved Villa get relegated not long after Keane and lambert left. And then after that hardly kicked a ball in the championship and was frozen out by Di Matteo and Bruce because his attitude was shocking. Some villa fan and captain he was. Bang average prem player who could run fast in his 20s and get into double figures occasionally who thought he was better than he was

Says so much more about him than it does keane.

Exactly, surely at some point you think, what have I achieved, what have you achieved. I could understand a Defoe having a go at LJ, he couldn't rightly say I know what works for me gaffa, but Gabby, to Roy!! No chance

It’s League 1 Man!

I think he'd do wonders for Dan Neil and even Embo as well personally.

We'd probably lose our close ties to Man City though

Put on about 2 stone towards the end of his time there as a senior pro (and homegrown pro), was caught a few times out on the **** the night before games iirc.

Absolute anti professional.

In what way have tactics evolved?
In what way have players attitudes changed?
In what way have Man City and Liverpool changed?
End of the day, Roy Keane is one of the players who invented and defined the modern game. Ok he doesn't like Abba in the dressing room and probably hasn't got a PS5, but so what? He'll have a lad there in the dressing room in Jermain Defoe who he just needs to point to and say look lads, this is what a footballer looks like. This is how you carve a career from the game. Let's gan out and win some games.
