Crawley has a higher ceiling. He needed to be dropped but I think there is talent there - he’s only 23 so time on his side

Malan? He's basically an opener anyway given these two are struggling to see off 2 overs of the new ball

May as well. Malan has a presence about him at the crease which helps. Can be explosive, can dig in. I think Ollie Pope has the talent to bat higher up too but obviously too risky to experiment in this series.

TBF I don't think Vaughan cares too much as long as they're white
