Rooney 2002 - 2005

It’s kinda the whole question in the op mate
I think the sarcasm flew over your head mate.
Those English lads....

Rooney a better footballer in 2004 than Shearer ever was, although as a striker for Blackburn he was absolutely fantastic.
Actually, I was referring to a specific post which said he's not seen anybody better. As for the English lads, I put my names forward: Andrew Johnson at Palace and Dean Ashton at Norwich. Both went on rampages.

I would reckon Kane's Bayern Munich run is up there with the greatest we've ever seen from an English player.

Shame he's not gonna win us the world cup.

I know he hasn’t got the goals Rooney did but in terms of all round football ability and him dragging his team along, Gerrard at his peak is about the closest I think gets to Rooney.

Someone said Bellingham, but it was a much shorter period.
And with Rooney wasn't his best period like 2004 to 2007/08-

Rooney was a bit of a special footballer because he was so complete in his skillset- the closet we've ever come to Maradona in that regard.

Rooney's problem was that he ended up being eclipsed by Cristiano Ronaldo at Man Utd. and his England teams always underperformed in the end.
Bellingham :lol::lol:

Although at the end of his career, the tackling back and long cross for a winning goal when playing in the US was as good an example of his skill and desire as anything he did earlier .

Probably Wayne Rooney circa 2006-2012.

Them 3 or 4 seasons when United were there or thereabouts in the CL is when he was at his best.
Aye I agree, AIG shirt sponsor Rooney was his peak imo like, and I didn’t appreciate him at the time cos I wasn’t a big fan. Maturing is realising just how good he actually was in that period.

It's just a shame England was such a mess in that period. Rooney's goalscoring form for us was very very good.

Suggesting 16, 17 and 18 year old (Everton and first Utd season) Rooney was his peak is absurd. From is second season onward to about 2009/10 was his peak and I don’t think many can come close if him honest, no.
Think his peak was 2007 to 2012. 2007 to 2009 with Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez was probably Fergie's best ever team. Then when Ronaldo left he had two brilliant goalscoring seasons in 09/10 and 11/12. But I think Euro 2004 was peak in terms of excitement.

I think in that period he was on course to be the best in the world he was very special.
It seems silly to say it but although he had a stellar career by the end of it he underachieved.
Although still a great player he seemed to have an edge taken of his sharpness I don’t know whether it was due to lifestyle or injuries.

Scholes 1999-2003. Scoring regularly for club and country. Scoring plenty in the Champions league. Brilliant in England's win v Argentina.

Then came injuries, positional chances, players leaving(Keane,Beckham,Yorke, RVN etc) and disillusionment with England. Reinvented himself as a DM but he was outstanding between 99-03 for club and country
