Roman Abramovich hands over ‘stewardship and care’ of Chelsea football club...

The most disgusting thing about that pathetic, half baked statement was the lack of acknowledgment or any reference at all to the horrendous situation in Ukraine.

Chelsea are one of his assets. He should be stripped of that asset immediately
He built Chelsea on stolen Russian we the people money….I know he developed Chelsea & the community and helped in charities throughout the Country last 20 years, but the end if the day its time you are striped of everything and force to live like the rest of us hard working people. My prayers are with Ukraine.

The most amazing thing about that clip is that a Sky producer didn’t appear behind him, clamp their hand over his mouth and drag him off-screen kicking and screaming in a headlock.

Marvellous how uncomfortable it is and how much of a prick it shows Jim White to be.

If ever there was an example of someone going completely against a TV channel’s agenda, live on air, then this is it. As the comment under it rightly points out, he was never seen again on SSN.
He was banging the same drum in the Sunday Times yesterday anarl.

This government are a disgrace. The prick should have been stripped of his “asset” by now. What on earth are they dithering over?
I don’t think they have the power to do it. It would need to go through the court system. If the UK government were simply allowed to seize assets people andvcompanies would be reluctant to invest here, it’s the sort of thing dodgy third world dictators do and one of the reasons third world countries remain exactly that

Can’t remember what it’s called but there is legislation that allows prosecution of individuals and seizure of assets if there is evidence they are ill gotten gains. Someone who is the wife of an East European banker got dragged through the courts on it recently, living off stolen proceeds
I’ve remembered. Unexplained Wealth Orders is the kegislationy

GB News has just announced that Abramovich wants to sell the club and a Swiss billionaire is thought to be interested in buying it.

It’s had lots of flaws the UNO too, hasn’t it? I’m surd I read the majority of people worked their way out of it in the end and it’s only accumulated something like £6million so far.

While I’m all for the legislation, it clearly needs tidying up and looking at again. Sadly I don’t think this gov want it to work in all honesty…

I wouldn’t thought Jim Ratcliffe would’ve been all over it as he tried to acquire them not too long ago. Unless Abrahamovic is demanding top dollar as he rides off into the sunset

I haven't read any of the details, but I don't see how this could possibly be allowed to happen, to keep in line with charity law. Charities have to show that their decisions are made in the best interests of their charitable purposes - helping people in need. How does owning a football club do that?

Yes, many charities run business operations (charity shops, etc), but that all still have one objective - to raise money for the cause. I would assume, therefore, that they would need to show the Charity Commission that they would be taking on an asset that would help them to meet their objectives financially. As Chelsea FC recorded a £150m loss last year, (and, I think, there are loans outstanding to Abramovich of £1bn+) that would take some sleight of hand!

Just seems a complete non-starter, charity law-wise. But surely Chelsea would have looked into that and had at least a hint of a plan to get round the barriers they face?
