That cheeky grin and he wore a helmet without a grill aways stood out for me. That and the fact he could cut a ball so hard from such a straight line, one of my favourite players growing up.Has passed away in Australia overnight aged 62. What a player he was, best square cutter I've ever seen. RIP judge
He had a pretty high batting average for a large part of his Test career. It did tail off a bit towards the end. I think only Graham Thorpe of his contemporaries was close to him.Makes me think of the first Brian Lara Cricket in about 95 which I owned on the Mega Drive, the best English player based on average![]()
I think it tailed off a bit while playing in a comparatively poor England side and was often in at 50/3 or similar or had little batting depth with him, which of course would have a negative impact on his average overall. He had a pretty high batting average for a large part of his Test career. Out of interest I had a look at his average over his career. It was as high as 54 at one stage and he was in the 50s and high 40s for a large part of his Test career. Even though he did tail off he still ended up with a career average of 43. That’s pretty impressive when you consider how good some of the attacks were that he faced and that he was badly handled by the England management at the time.I think it tailed off a bit while playing in a comparatively poor England side and was often in at 50/3 or similar or had little batting depth with him, which of course would have a negative impact on his average overall.
Exactly the same as me mate. Very sad newsOne of my fav cricketers when I was a kid. Loved watching him on TV when sitting watching cricket with my Grandad
