RLB will be gone before next season

Fair enough.

I guess my statement means that he has the potential to be great, but the EPL as we know is a very, very demanding league and I dont think he'll have the opportunity to reach his potential here if results dont go his way

I know from my own career trajectory that I leave a role, reflect and then try and do better in the new one. I think the same will happen with Reggie
Yeah manager turnaround is mental at present, and has been for few year now . Pretty sure clubs regret their decisions but just move on again if new guy doesn't fit. Must cost fortunes.

I worry that expectations have gone through the roof because of the excellent work done. We have survived and not many predicted it, so well done Regis for me .

Victim of his own success....

I think he'll be gone by Christmas. Think our success this season has largely been down to recruitment of which he has little say over. Season overall been a major success but if have a poor end to this season which is a real possibility combined with a poor start to next the powers that be won't hesitate to get rid. He's obviously a cracking fella but can't help but think he's not strong enough to deal with level of players we'll be looking to bring in as we try to push on. Think even now you can sense a whiff of a lack of discipline behind the scenes
Your last point is arguably a bigger concern than the recent performances given how evident the team spirit was earlier in the season. Mayenda, Isidor and Geertruida have been strolling about as if they couldn’t give a shit for weeks now and Diarra clearly didn’t want to know on Sunday.

Without Xhaka we would be where Burnley are
To me that is a damning indictment on RLB

Makes supposition without a basis in fact and treats it as truth.

Apportions blames for his made up statement to someone.

Judges that person negatively based upon the blame he's arbitrarily attributed to him for the thing that didn't happened.

That sounds incredibly fair, reasonable and well thought out mate. I do hope you put those skills to use in a professional capacity like law or medicine?

Talks in riddles about connections
dynamics and experiences reminiscent of Cantona and the seagullsst

Any manager worth his salt would have put a rocket up them at half time but we have been papering over the cracks for a long time.

Lets face it we got lucky in the play offs, lucky at Wembley and Xhaka has been acting as de,-facto manager on and off the pitch.

Without him we are rudderless and will probably splutter our way to safety.

Ghisolfi brought in a number of quality players who dont need a great deal of " management" and yet RLB still insists on Hume in the hybrid role.

KLD has to much invested to fail and Ghisolfi will be working on a manager to take us to the next level.

Nice guy but he has to go in the name of progress.
Mental.

'Season overall been a major success'. But aye, let's sack him. Do you realise how mental this sounds?
He didn’t say that mind. He’s saying the ambition of the owners will demand at least an equally good season as this and, if it’s not looking that way, he thinks they’ll look elsewhere.

I personally hope he’s here years but needs to tweak things to get us scoring more next season.

Aye. That’s why I’m not worried.
If he stays it’ll be with the express idea of improving our forwards and goals.
If he goes it’ll be cos they want someone else in to do that.
Don’t see why he can’t

Spot-on mate. If he’s still here this time next year, we’ve had another cracking season - even better, probably.

I think the hardest part of managing at this level now is keeping the players on board.

If ideas stop working, results flat line or start to dip it only takes a few influential characters in the dressing room for things to start going wrong.

Hopefully that won’t become the case here

This season is the same as the last, Regis has a squad with about 13 decent players which he has to keep in and around the starting XI without a break.
By January they suffer fatigue and injuries and suspensions kick in and results suffer, it's not as a result of poor management it's a waifer thin squad.
He demonstrates what can be done in the first half of the season with fresh players. Improve squad depth and allow him the opportunity to rotate players without detriment to results and we'll see what he can do. A decent 15 goal a season striker could also bolster his chances of pleasing a few on here.
It's pointless saying he's not got it in him to take us higher when he's not got the squad to do that. Which Manager has managed to do get a squad of players into the top 6 of the PL without spending £500M + and having 20+ PL quality players.
We need to establish ourselves as a PL club and continue to bolster squad depth for at least another couple of seasons before being able to properly compete against the top six.

Vale was a bad result but look at the bench we had as a PL club, will it be much different against Brighton?
A ver sensible and accurate post

The most toxic Sunderland 'fans' are always those abroad and those who couldn't find the SOL with 2 hands and a map.

This thread is embarrassing, you’ve had the best season you could possibly hope for and some want the manager sacked? Crazy!

Some do but the vast majority of our fans want him to succeed, the tempo and standard of the football is dire at times though.

If the first third of the season had been like the second third (awful/sublime compared to sublime/awful) I think KLD would have shown him the door with Speakman.

I wonder if the new contract jealousy has kicked in, seems to happen regularly.

either that or lads get to hear how much brass team mates / new signings are on and get mardy. some of the drop in form for a few of our lot is massive, we look toothless up top, even allowing for Brobbey's absence we should be look a lot more dynamic.

I wonder also if Xhaka not volleying them for 90 minutes has been a big factor?.

I think some people need to listen to Spirit of Eden and shut up.
