Rip to the Bear - Big Allan

What a brilliant photo from the past. I reckon bout 1971 . Anyone put any names to faces?

Aye. I’m on there when I was about 13/14. Front row on right hand side. Blue jumper.
Only problem is I wasn’t born until 1978 😳🤣😳🤣
It’s definitely not my dad or my uncle either so I’ve got a double kicking about somewhere in Sunderland 🤣🤣🤣

Where's Vauxie?
Him and the Bear were ever present at the matches and the Roker End under #17 in the 70's

Not in 1970 I was stood in front of him (and his girlfriend) in the Fulwell End (Clockstand corner) getting pelted with sharpened coins.

"Away from the pitch, a marauding group of around 300 Newcastle fans threw bricks, smashing windows of houses and shops on the way to Roker Park, where further vandalism saw 30 windows at the ground broken, while a car was overturned at Fulwell bus depot in a senseless, terrifying scene.
Police confiscated a bag of weapons thrown over the wall by a group of skinheads at the Fulwell End.
The weapons included chisels, blades, scissors, chains and sharpened coins.
Meanwhile, hundreds of fans were unable to force their way on to the Roker End terrace."

This little story shows the sides to his big character. He came on an all-day booze & footy Civil Service trip to York with a mutual mate. After a few beers we dipped into a fish & chips restaurant for a bite to eat. He told me off for not eating my peas 😳😂. Afterwards (and before getting back on the beer) he said he must dip into a souvenir shop to buy a thimble for their lass to add to her collection. A good lad to be side by side with on your away days. RIP The Bear.

He did work in the Civil Service very very briefly early 2000s

Sad news. An absolute trench fighter for the Sunderland cause. I was surprised to discover he was such a lovely fella after he let me on the bus for nowt some 20 years back and shared some top banter. He'll also probably be remembered for laying out numerous Leicester fans down Filbert Street after they came on strong with knives the kernts

I have no idea how you did this.
I don’t either, just keep pressing buttons 🙂

A well known face around town, throughout the 70s and onwards, my old mate big Allan Carr Bryan passed yesterday over in Thailand, his happy place. I'm guessing that most of us in our 50s and 60s who went out around Sun'lun, back in the day will remember him.

RIP marra. Will miss your crack, your smile and your warmth, but not your f*cking handshake! View attachment 16938

Hi I’m Allan’s son in law mark Abi’s husband , jewels has set up this page to help get Allan back home don’t no if you could help get this about ? Abi has loved reading the stories so thank you for this post .

Allan was a bus driver at that time. He came on the trip with our mutual mate Kenny S (another away day character).
Kenny Smith - great bloke, I used to get the same bus as him going to Longbenton. My first meeting was in the Boddies brewery tap when we played United, he could certainly sup some beer
Was that Kenny with the mop of red hair?
He did, along with tash
