Where's Vauxie?
Him and the Bear were ever present at the matches and the Roker End under #17 in the 70's
You look like little jimmy osmondAye. I’m on there when I was about 13/14. Front row on right hand side. Blue jumper.
Only problem is I wasn’t born until 1978
It’s definitely not my dad or my uncle either so I’ve got a double kicking about somewhere in Sunderland![]()
This little story shows the sides to his big character. He came on an all-day booze & footy Civil Service trip to York with a mutual mate. After a few beers we dipped into a fish & chips restaurant for a bite to eat. He told me off for not eating my peas. Afterwards (and before getting back on the beer) he said he must dip into a souvenir shop to buy a thimble for their lass to add to her collection. A good lad to be side by side with on your away days. RIP The Bear.

I was therein the stand opposite the Kop,hell of a turn out I remember Hammy marching up behind us with a good squad and around to take their Kop a few ofus years n the pitch to attack from the front didn’t materialise and we got beat 1-0Sad news. An absolute trench fighter for the Sunderland cause. I was surprised to discover he was such a lovely fella after he let me on the bus for nowt some 20 years back and shared some top banter. He'll also probably be remembered for laying out numerous Leicester fans down Filbert Street after they came on strong with knives the kernts
A well known face around town, throughout the 70s and onwards, my old mate big Allan Carr Bryan passed yesterday over in Thailand, his happy place. I'm guessing that most of us in our 50s and 60s who went out around Sun'lun, back in the day will remember him.
RIP marra. Will miss your crack, your smile and your warmth, but not your f*cking handshake! View attachment 16938
Kenny Smith - great bloke, I used to get the same bus as him going to Longbenton. My first meeting was in the Boddies brewery tap when we played United, he could certainly sup some beerAllan was a bus driver at that time.
