RIP dad

Sorry for your loss. RIP to another great follower of Sunderland AFC.

Cancer sucks. The people who look after our relatives in their final days deserve an enormous amount of respect and thanks for the amazing job they do. It's the one charity I don't hesitate to contribute to.

So my dad passed away at 1655 today. We knew it was likely to be today and I planned to watch my last game with him even though we would only be there in body. Whatever happened today I was going to tell him that Luke had just lashed a screamer into the top corner to win it and we've finished 7th and are in Europe.

So I had the game on the laptop and the lads did us proud - He was unconscious and sedated and passed peacefully. I hope he heard some of my dodgy commentary. This was our 50th year of following the lads together. What a milestone.

He told me he picked out Sunderland in a 1956 FA cup draw at school which lead him to follow them. I'm not sure that's true as his dad and grandparents were from Shildon and Canny Hill..Either way I'm glad he did and passed that down to me.

Joanne Youngson was amazing and got me some Heaven Branch grass clippings in 24 hours so he had those on his pillow this afternoon. Thank you so much Joanne.

Sorry for this post, I just wanted to share the news that another MLF has passed.

He won't be here next week for Chelsea but I'lll still run through the match report with him. Cancer sucks. Haway the dad x
Sorry for your loss and he will be with you on Sunday cheering the lads on.

Sorry for your loss

Whilst want to say sorry for your loss, feels a bit more appropriate to say that you have done your Dad proud by still watching the match with him and giving him a send off like you did. He will always be proud of you for that.

I'm not good with words in these situations but sounds like the perfect bitter sweet moment.

I'd like to think he had a hand in that result yesterday.

Take care

I love this thread.
Perfect illustration of how little of supporting SAFC is about football and how much of it is about who you watched the game with, who you talked about the game with, who you reminisced with about old Sunderland stories....
RIP the OP's Dad.

So sorry for your loss. Hopefully he is up there with my dad on Sunday and sees us qualify for Europe

My very deepest condolences to you & your family.

Football really brings blokes together (and lasses) - I hope those treasured memories of you & your Dad help you through your loss.
