Rhodes to Durham

I’ve also heard those rumours. Lancashire the destination.

How many of our bowlers are in the current England rotation? 🤔
Logical for Jones-he's a Lancashire lad.
As for bowlers it's 7 years for Potts and 8 for Carse since their Durham debuts. Nothing, either batting or bowling, has come through since and cemented a 1st team place. That's a big concern to me.

McKinney, Killeen and Stanley Mac made their debuts younger than Carse and Coughlin were.

Most of them are still younger than when Coughlin and Carse debuted.

Coughlin was nearly 20 and Carse 21.

We may well be about to debut a 16 year old in 3 hours and Hogg to also not as old as Coughlin/Carse when they debuted.

Whether any of them are good enough remains to be seen but they are still a few years off the age you'd expect them to be able to replace some of the players we have.

Gibson time has probably gone now. Bushnell needs to grab his chance this year or probably hard for him going forward.

Which doesn't alter the fact that we haven't produced an established 1st XI cricketer in 7 years. None of those mentioned above are even performing consistently at 2nd XI which doesn't suggest future 1st team potential. The current 2nd X1 are weak in all formats.

Which would be more of a concern if the team weren’t performing, but we’re only 9 months removed from walking to the Division Two title and have more than held our own back at the top table.

Perfectly true but it's a concern nevertheless.Walking the 2nd division commendable but no recent academy products in that team. Buying in cannot be a long term policy.

The team is stacked with academy products, period. Just because they don’t fall into your imaginary idea of ‘recent’ doesn’t negate the fact they came through our academy.

I sincerely hope that all my concerns and fears are imaginary.

I hope for that too marra. Don’t get me wrong, I agree it’s something to be mindful of, but I’m not concerned just yet because I think what we’re currently seeing is the effects on the Academy of the FTECB rape and pillage.

When they demoted us in 2016 Paul Collingwood said it would take five years for us to turn things around, I think this is simply the delayed effect of those sanctions being played out in terms of youth production or a lack thereof.

Lads like Mitch Killeen and Ben McKinney who played yesterday will have had a number of their formative years impacted by the changes made in response to those sanctions. We can only hope that the likes of John Windows and Marcus North are taking the necessary steps to get us back to where we ought to be.

Apparently decided to leave Warwickshire as he wasn't in their t20 plans and they wanted him to concentrate on championship cricket. Rhodes himself wants to be a t20 all rounder. So i would imagine he will be an important cog in our t20 campaign.
His T20 career record is quite modest which is probably why he wasn't in Warwickshire 's plans but a solid red ball player.
