The Bob Willis Trophy

All First-Class Counties committed to playing same red-ball and white-ball competitions
Fixtures for new men’s domestic season to be announced later this month
09 July 2020
All 18 First-Class Counties have agreed to participate in the same competitive red-ball and white-ball competitions during this summer’s shortened men’s domestic season.

The season will commence with a four-day competition which will enable all 18 First-Class Counties to compete for the Bob Willis Trophy. This will be followed by a shortened Vitality Blast competition starting on 27 August.

Ticket holders for men's domestic matches and FCC members are set to be contacted by venues with the options available to them after a new fixture schedule is announced.

ECB Managing Director of County Cricket, Neil Snowball, said:

“The enforced break due to COVID-19 has provided a challenging period for the county game during which time the 18 First-Class Counties have been united with a common goal to get back to our core function of playing cricket.

“The commitment of the Chairs and Chief Executives of the First-Class Counties to work together to achieve that ambition has been resolute and we will remain in close discussion as we continue to assess risk factors that need to be mitigated in order to ensure the safety and welfare of their players, coaches and staff.

“We are all delighted that agreement has been reached across the game and we are now in a position to look forward to and prepare for a new men’s domestic season starting on August 1.”

I’m booking a seat in the trapdoor stand, the rest of you can sit anywhere else

that stand is mine

The original plan was to allow members only got county games

The majority of cricket grounds are big enough to allow non-members in and still adhere to the necessary distancing.

Clubs also have to survive financially of course and I’m more than prepared to pay good money to go and watch Durham in the next couple of months.

It’s never been more important IMO to support the club financially.

Well said.

im going to do what’s available in the t20s. Can’t make the championship but its great they are naming it in honour of the much missed Bob

Where does it suggest we’ll be allowed in?

This could just mean the options will be refund or roll on to next season.

The exact same statement was met with much excitement on the Yorkshire board a few days ago mind. Think we’ll just take any encouragement and read whatever we want into it at the moment!

I think by the time these comps start, limited access will be available, especially championship games at the big grounds.

as for t20 that could be trickier

the durham members meeting a good few weeks back indicated they would hope members would be allowed to watch red ball cricket. they also said kent members living in say durham could watch durham for example

Yeah I was looking at comments on the Kent site a couple of days ago and their CEO was saying he thought when cricket recommenced in August it may still be behind closed doors....then again that comment was made before Dowden's briefing yesterday so hopefully we may get to see something.

I spoke to someone close to the Kent board yesterday who said they were expecting to be allowed about 1,000 spectators - which would be seen as a reward for members - but that it may not be possible to organise in time for the CCC - more likely it'll be T20

Well if they let anyone in it better be the hanging judge from Peterlee and his deckchair or there will be hell on.

Sat next to him a few years back. He had an array of different types of tea laid out on his side table

Impressed that you got past his fearsome followers ie the Deckchair Casuals - they're normally armed to the teeth with tartan thermos flasks and Playfair Cricket Annuals.
