When you retire, if your age plus years of service adds up to over 85 you don't get hit with actuarial reductions. However this only applies to benefits accrued prior to 2008 (or might be 2006, whenever they changed it)

Never knew this, I was 56 with 33 years service. Best thing I ever done 👍

THank you,still not got a clue what it all means. I was talking to somebody at work yesterday. I'd brought in cakes as it was birthday last week, and so we were chatting about being here for long time, 27 years for me and I think its 35 for him. He asked me what age I was celebrating, mentioned 53, and he said something about 'you'll be ok with the 85 year rule then.'

I can relate to that. It seemed so far away and then bang it was the final day. I made sure everything was left in order. I was escorted from the building after being stripped of my ID. It seemed almost surreal however by the time I'd reached my car there was a broad smile on my face.

Judging by that comment, i take it you are looking forward to it. I was surprised to find that not everyone does.
I think this mainly applies to people who have worked in groups or squads or offices. They miss the company of others.

Have a long and satisfying retirement.
 
Another 2 months for me but then I'm going to carry on working and taking holidays when I want. Got 4 weeks holidays sorted already, many more planned.

Enjoy it - did the same two years ago - handed in laptop and stuff, lanyard, pass and never looked back once . You will miss some people, keep in touch with the ones that you want, and not miss others to be honest. Enjoy the strangeness of the first first few week and then embrace the fact that you are now in charge of your very own timetable, you can go when and where and how you like and at a pace to suit yourself and family. Do all the stuff you never had time to do when you were working. Keep fit and healthy and the rest takes care of itself. Welcome to the wonderful world of retirement:D
