If it hadn't been for his heart attack, there may have been a chance of Geoff Cook's name being put in the hat.

:lol:Peter Moores. The best coach in county cricket with NO Pietersen.[DOUBLEPOST=1391429472][/DOUBLEPOST]We need an English coach.

When you look at Colly's recent track record it might be worth him applying. Took over the captaincy when Durham were certs for the drop, avoided that and then won the title the next season despite not having an overseas player and having that points deduction.

Then he takes an active coaching role with Scotland and they qualify for the World Cup.

The ECB though will probably say he needs to cut his teeth in the England set up with some other role first.

aye, this is what i'm more worried about tbh, losing collingwood not to england coach but to a managerial equivalent of drinks carrier.

Otis Gibson :)

bring him back to durham

Giles record as England coach so far is appalling 1 series victory out of about 7 he shouldn't be in a job never mind looking at a promotion

Not for Durham he wouldn't! Heard that Kirsten wants to spend 70% of his time at home in SA so I can't see that happening. Nailed on it's going to be Giles and it's going to be shite. Did he even win anything with Warwickshire?
Think he won the 40 over league with Warickshire and reached a semi with them one year. That was pretty much the basis for him getting the England job.

The sad thing is unless they go overseas and we end up with another Southern African or even worse an Aussie then Giles will get the job. Looking at the 18 counties there is not one head coach who stands out as an outstanding candidate, thats probably why Collys name is being touted to bypass county cricket and go straight into an England coaching position.
If it happens not sure where that leaves Durham if they have burned their bridges with Benks.
A fair comment. Colly will look after himself and wouldnt flinch at leaving Durham - would be my guess. If he does then Durham are right in the shite because clearly it is Collingwood who is overall responsible for the astonishing turnaround in Durham in the last 20 odd CC matches with what is a home grown side. Theyd go down if he left.
