Sunderland are closing in on the signing of goalkeeper Remi Matthews. The 26-year-old is a free agent having left Bolton Wanderers. He had been training with league rivals Ipswich Town. The Black Cats are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper after the departure of Jon McLaughlin. (Lancashire Telegraph)

Any good?

Good shot stopper poor distribution has s clanger in him

Never seen him play and I can imagine most haven't either. Doubt he'll be number one, I have faith in Burge.

Not sure about this one. Would rather loan in an up and coming keeper from one of the premier league squads than permanently sign on a keeper that most likely is not as good as McLaughlin in this division. Clubs down here bring Keepers in on loan all the time. With a club this size, you would think that the bigger clubs in the premier league could see this club as an opportunity to send an up and coming keeper here on loan roger the experience of playing in front of a large crowd in a crap division.

I was never a huge fan of McLaughlin to be honest.
I personally reckon he’s about as good as you’ll get on a permanent deal at this level.

I’d rather we went for an extraordinary young’un from a Premier League team a la Pickford when Parkinson had him at Bradford.

Hopefully Sarkic fits that mould and we’re still in for him over Matthews.

Poor signing imo. Could save the wage and get sarkic. U23s don't count to cap and loan players could be way around as could pay loan fee instead of wages. That would leave more in kitty to get attacking player Maddison or a striker who actually scores goals. Perish the thought

You would think that would be a consideration wouldn’t you.

We don’t really have much form for being that smart in our recruitment though.
