In those mid table finishes they were only double figure points safe 4 times. One was their best ever season. Even when they finished 8th they were only 9 points off relegation.

Eddie Howe is considered a good coach. His Bournemouth team broke FFP rules to get into the Prem, spent millions on staying up only for him to get them relegated in their fifth season with a win percentage of 24%. He's moved on and doing a fairly decent job at the Mags.
It's not all black and white when it comes to looking at track records.
