Reduced seam on ball this season

Interesting article in this morning's Times claiming many coaches complaining that this season's Readers have a far less pronounced seam than last years. Deliberate policy by ECB to reduce lateral movement. Probably fair enough but the exceptionally dry Spring has meant far less moisture to further negate lateral movement. Nor is it hot enough to produce hard fast pitches; hence tracks totally in favour of batting unless conditions are heavily overcast.
Largely the reason for Rushy's figures. Let's not write him off yet.

We use Dukes balls don’t we?

Yeh,my error but you'll get the gist.

Wasn’t trying to be a pendant, just know that the Readers were universally despised by cricketers all over  so would’ve been a huge surprise had they gone back to them.

Would certainly explain the struggles of the majority of our seamers so far this year.

Number 5 came in at an angle to take off stump too
I mean Potts in general is the exception - not that one delivery - as the stats of the season so far would back up.

The wider issue of course is a problem for us. Just how big of a problem remains to be seen, but if it continues as it has been going, it might be worth tailoring pitches at Riverside to be a lot more sporting than the ECB would like them to be.

He isn't much taller than Rushworth though, is he? I'm 6'2" and they're all about my height give or take an inch when they pass me on the Pavillion steps.

So? He's a lot quicker

Thats the point

Less help for your tradional seam and swing bowlers and its point of difference bowlers who make a difference

I am all for it, Potts is some talent and will play for England

I dont see it as a problem, its a challenge and we will learn a lot about our attack

Once again remembering Carse and if he'd been fit we'd have been well placed.
Maybe I am getting carried away, but I really think the stars are aligning for Potts

Flat pitches, dry weather, the balls, an increase in eyes on the CC due to the England side, and lots and lots of runs being scored.

Lots of team playing on flat pitches struggling to take wickets, but he is. Lots of journos mentioning him now.

And now he has the England captain at gully

I thought he would be in the ODIs to Amsterdam, but now I am wondering if he could even get in a test squad this summer.

It's entirely relevant. How hard you hit the deck is a matter of angle, determined by bowler height and action, not just pace.

I think Brandon is 100% correct: hitting the deck harder is the way to bowl this year. We need to get Carse and Coughlin into the team at expense of Raine and Salisbury as they have similar pace and angle to Potts.

Whey's Coughlin?
Or, more pertinent, Where's Coughlin?

Yeah but you’re asking why rushy isn’t being as successful as Potts

Potts is a better bowler for these wickets, not much rushy can do about that like

Of course the extra pace matters, that’s cricket

I knar that i was just wondering why. I noticed Salisbury trying to crank it up and hit the deck a bit harder today. His wicket was quick with away seam. We need to create more bowlers in that style and less medium pace away swing dobblers if England are ever going to succeed away from home
