Really minor annoyances

When you copy and paste something into an existing bullet list in Word, it adds the text to the line you want it to, but also adds a new line with a new bullet and no text, which you don’t need and have to delete.
I would paste two lines in if I wanted two.

And the reformatting is a nightmare. Easier just to undo and restart.

Don’t get me started. I reviewed a document this morning, spent the first half hour fixing the formatting and grammar before I did any real work on it.
More than a few times I've hit send on the morning report giving up on formatting. With the obligatory "fuck you gates, you win again" muttered under my breath.

My Mam says things like "you remember Margaret?"
"no"
"yes you do, she came to Church with Joyce when you were little. She had a toddler called Billy"
"I've no idea"
"yes you do, anyway, you'll never guess what Billy is doing now........"
and I'm sat there thinking who the hell is she rambling on about 😊

Also she gives directions by shops/buildings that no longer exist and sometimes they didn't exist in my lifetime, yet somehow I'm expected to remember where they were.
Or people you have never met. I had the other day,
"Well Claire was off doing blah blah blah". I sat nodding but my daughter did ask the question I was trying to avoid "Who is Claire?".

"Well it is Claire"
blank looks
"Claire" (with raised eyebrows) - Still no more information at this point
"You know, she sings in the choir at the church"
"Oh Claire, ok carry on" while thinking, still no idea.

Bear in mind that at around the age of 14 I was given the choice if I went to church or not and declined, so if I do remember anyone from the church it was from over 33 years ago. And another point, which some might say it is a biggie in identification process, back then it was a completely different church with different people. Throw in the fact I moved out of the North East in 1995, the random meeting of "Claire" becomes pretty slim.

Another one was about how people are going to be dressed for an upcoming wedding. "Well I saw photos of how people were dressed at her sisters wedding, so I guess we can wear similar". Phone comes out. "I don't actually have the photos but here is the cake. So I think if we wore....". I showed her a picture of a badger on my phone just so I could join in the random unrelated photo game.

Sunderlands version of bro or bruh iirc.
Oh. How is it pronounced or does anyone say it out loud? I always read it as "cheeeee".

Similar to the "mam" thing of talking about people you don't know as if you do, or directions by what used to be there. I get that at work. I made a report of all these systems that were out of date and asked someone to put the name of the system owners next to them all so I could chase up and get something done. 2 weeks later the report comes back with three letter acronyms next to each system. I had no idea what the meaning of them was.

Turns out it was a acronym for the old team names before they had a restructure 4-5 yeas ago. I've been there two years, so need to translate old to new then new to people. Not the most helpful report I have ever had.
f***ing plastic bottle caps attached to the bastard bottle.
What? You find it a problem that drinking out a bottle with the cap pressing into your face, often leaving a couple of drips of coke for good measure? You are so fussy.

A new law, because some fuckwits open a bottle and fling the cap away, but now they will put the bottle and cap together into recycling. I'm sure the government will take an evidence based approach, assess if it is working in a year or so, and repeal the law if it is found to be pointless.

Just gets ripped off. Totally pointless although I imagine some study that cost 300m says otherwise.

It does feel a very academic study. There are some excellent academic studies out there but there are also plenty that fail to look at human nature and how humans react to things.

"We found that 14 million bottles are recycled each month, but only 8 million bottle caps. Therefore we conclude if bottle caps could not be removed then we will recycle 6 million more caps".

On the other hand people either will do as you say (and I do) rip the bottle cap off anyway, because it is bloody annoying. People complain about environmental issues being rammed in your face, but this is one where the law really does physically press the issue into your face. The more you piss people off forcing things onto them, the more likely they are to do the opposite and from a good idea badly implemented you can very well end up with a worse situation.
