Really minor annoyances

Binmen and postmen not shutting the gate behind them.

Worst one is if it's someone flyering and they do it. They've essentially littered through my letterbox, giving me the job of disposing of their shite having provided me with no service whatsoever.

"Shall I write that email to get an update?"

"No, I'll do it, save you a job."

"OK"

"What shall I say?"

"So you're going to write the email, to save me a job, but you want me to stand next to your f***ing desk and dictate what to say while you peck at your f***ing keyboard with two fingers, because that's much f***ing faster than me just f***ing writing it."

We had someone who would come bustling into the office, and it was the same conversation nearly every time.
"I've just sent you an email"
"Ok thanks, I'm in the middle of something but I'll look at it when I get the chance"
"It is quite important, it does need doing now" (I should point out that things could sit with her for a week or two but once they were top of her pile they were the most important thing ever)
"Ok, I'll look at it when I finish this, this is important too and if I make a mistake I'll bring the firewall down and throw the entire site off the internet"
"Someone is waiting on this and we don't want to appear that we punish people"
"I'll be done in 20 minutes, I'll look at it then"
"Well I have printed it out for you as well, along with the whole history from our ticketing system" (slams a wad of paper down on the desk)
"That is ok, I'll read it on the screen in 20 minutes when I'm finished this"
"Well what the email says is this......"
"Stop, I'll read it when I'm finished this"
"How long will that be"
"Let me see, 20 minutes for the work, 5 minutes to work out where I was before I was repeatedly interrupted plus however much more time we spend discussing the fact you sent me an email. I would probably have been finished by now if you were not standing over my shoulder telling me you sent me an email".
"Oh, well shall I leave this printout for you to look at?"
"No, you sent it in an email, I don't need it"
"What shall I do with it then?"
"Put it in recycling, or whatever you like, I don't want it littering up my desk"
"Oh, are you seriously telling me I wasted my time preparing all this for you?"
"Yes, like I explain every day, we have email and a ticketing system for this, so that we don't need to have piles and piles of paper"
"Well this is quite urgent now. I did tell the person it would be done by 2pm and it is five too now"
"Don't promise my time and availability to people then expect me to drop more important things because of your invented impossibly short deadline"

And so it would go on for another 10 minutes, when eventually she would say "It has been nearly 20 minutes since I came in, have you don't it yet?". "FFS no, because I've been standing telling you I'm not going to leave an unimportant task half way through to do something else, for the last 20 minutes".

Once I was having lunch in the cafe next door and she spotted me, coming over with her wad of paper mid meal wanting me to drop it. It was always the enabling of a student account after a student had apologised for something they should not have been doing. No, I'm not going to abandon my dinner for that. She went to the assistant director to put in an official complaint about me for that one. They told her breaks were important and if she interrupted staff again on breaks, she would be discussing the matter with HR.

Taps in public toilets that need to be pressed otherwise they turn off. I understand the reasoning, but seems unhygienic to keep having to press the tap.
Use your elbow!
Although it is a minor annoyance that - especially during Covid - we were all reminded to rinse for twenty seconds but presumably for water preservation each tap push usually only lasts about five!

“Last year it was £386, and this year it’s £1600, so that’s a big reduction.”

So either the first number or the second number or the word “reduction” is wrong. Begin querying. Time until they lose their temper: 3 minutes

Positioning of the share button so near leave button on Teams.

Teams and Slack are both guilty of allowing people to call you, ringing so you can hear it through your speakers, but not showing the box to allow you to pick up or ignore the call.

I'm pretty sure my bosses don't believe me.

B&Q website basically being a front for selling cheap mail-order tat that isn't even available for collection in stores.

The only point of going to B&Q is to sacficice value to pick up something at short-notice. If you're going to be a knock-off Amazon, I may as well look on Amazon.

If I'm looking on your site, I want to know what's in the shop; otherwise you're just wasting my time.

Similarly, Argos putting stuff front and centre that's never in stock; to entice you to look and hopefully get you to buy the dearer alternative.

This, and you have to filter every search you do. You can't just set a default of only show me stuff by B&Q or only stuff in stock at my local (or surrounding) stores.

I'm like you, in the middle of a job, not sure what I want or if it is in stock, have a quick check online and then pop up. I know it is owned by the same group, but I'm more likely now to go to ScrewFix, because you search their shop and they return things they sell.

A lot of companies are getting on that bandwagon now. I wondered what The Range did in terms of furniture and I got hundreds of hits back. Doing some comparison, it looks like all the sellers sell on Amazon for the same price, and at least on Amazon you have a lot of reviews. Do I buy blind from B&Q or The Range, or buy the same things with an informed choice for the same price from Amazon? Amazon wins.

Screwfix know their lane and stay in it. Plus - at least where I live - there's about three different stores handy for where I live.

I'm preferring it more, and I hope they don't change that.

If I'm going straight away, then I go with a few codes written on a scrap of paper. If I'm going in an hour or so, do a click and collect. I'm usually in and out.

Where as B&Q, all the hassle searching the site. Then even when you have checked and it is aisle 5, you can't find the thing. On the way in you have to spend time telling the latest charity stall that you don't want to sign up, donate or anything else. Then get to the checkouts and find that the person who supervises the self-checkouts has wandered off again, meaning there is a huge queue going to the single served till. Although you could use the other self service till next to this one, you can't because the way is blocked by the queue, which is normally full of old people wanting to make a fuss about everything then carefully count out over £100 in £5 notes and odd coins.

Screwfix is the perfect-sized shop. Has most things you need and you walk about five yards tops. B&Q you get your 10,000 steps in for the day and leave empty handed cos it's not there as they'd rather have 50 varieties of stuff they sell frequently than an obscure item that'll take up valuable shelf-space. God, I sound like Roy Cropper.
