I'm totally sickened by this. When Neil was appointed I said on here he would take us up when opinion on him was pretty split. He's an excellent manager and I thought he'd be here for the long haul. Instead he's jumping ship at the first opportunity, and for Stoke. One of the most pointless and boring clubs, in one of the most pointless and boring areas of the country.

To rub salt in the wounds it comes on the day them up the road pull out £60m for a new striker. It's like there's someone up there just permanently tormenting us. Honestly I'm 54 years old and I'm getting pig sick of it all. As soon as something good seems to be happening there's another kick in the bollocks to come along straight away.

Todd, Baxter, Tueart, Watson, Reid, Henderson, Bent, Allardyce, Maja (OK, maybe not!), now Neil - I'm sure there are others who've disappointed us when we hoped for so much more.

They were all just moments in time that fleetingly gave us real hope to cling to, but they each had their own agendas and SAFC wasn't that important to them. Reid might argue differently, but he, probably more than any of the others, blew the best-ever opportunity this club had to be relevant again.
 
Just been thinking the same. 42 years old and orjer than the odd season or game it's been let down after let down. 30 years of season tickets, away games, money spent now on kids kits etc and just constantly kicked in the bollocks. Sick as fuck and really wondering why do I bother myself.

He's spent next to nowt and we wonder why Neil is frustrated. Even £15m and we could bring in a solid couple of players and compete for the top 6.

Neil knows the championship inside out and if he is leaving and its not because ekf salary, its because of transfera.
 
This Club man...It's like finding out you've won the Euro Millions one day-then being diagnosed with terminal cancer the next day. Totally sick of the shambolic way we are run. We do not deserve this. Feel-good factor once again hit by an exocet missile.

I totally understand why you think that. However, try to keep the faith. Firstly, our manager did fantastically well, but any club is open to an approach from a rival, and the fact that he's taken the first opportunity suggests that he doesn't agree with our long-term vision of slow, steady growth through a certain type of player recruitment. He would argue he needs proven championship players, the club would argue they provided that with Clarke and Roberts, and narrowly missed out on Broadhead (although he could easily sign a pre-contract with another club in Jan, even us). I think we need to look more into the fact that AN knows it could take a few years, he's not on huge money here and Stoke have a reputation for paying big money, I think MON was on 800k or something crazy which I heard when Scotland tried to hire him before Steve Clarke (who is on about half of that). Even if AN was on 250k now and we offered him a massive rise, probably Stoke just beat that again and his family live close by (always a huge advantage for Midlands clubs).

It's sickening but he's already laid solid foundations and we made an astute choice in hiring him (against all the pressure for Keano) so we should at least hope all is not lost and we can attract a quality replacement either proven (like AN) or up-and-coming.

It hurts because it's the same situation with Allardyce, just as we finally got settled, he gets poached, and it could well happen again. I think AN didn't want a DOF, that's pretty clear otherwise he'd have held on for a far bigger job than stoke that could have come his way. I'm very surprised he's accepted it, and I think it shows he's maybe put his family before his ambition. It happens, no-one is bigger than SAFC.

Where do Neil's family live? For me this seems the only logical reason for him to go to Stoke.

Stokes owners are some of the richest people in Britain, they’re hamstrung by FFP on transfers but guess nothing stopping them throwing silly money at a manager
