Re-arranging deckchairs on the Titanic for the 3rd test

I think we will to agree to disagree mate on that last point.

I watched him bowl brilliantly in South Africa

he has also had a good season for Yorkshire

there is almost a football mentality creeping in here with some fans with regards to the abuse of some players, just being "shite"

and before you say I am luke that with Burns, I dont think he is shite, I think he is a good cricketer, and a good opener, who at 31 just cant get any better so we need to move on as he has played over 30 games for England. But he is a very good cricketer.

Despite what you think, Dom Bess is a good spin bowler, has had a lot of success in county cricket, has bowled well in high pressure situations for England, getting out some extremely world class players of spin. Of course he has had bad games too, but the way you talk about him like he is Sunday league.

He just isn't.
I saw a list of his first innings scored must have been 25 in a row that looked astonishing. I agree though you have to factor in longevity and form. Root / Smith should easily be number one because they are the best in the world.

Aye not doubting his ability marra, quality batsman, he will get there on merit at some time, but Root has played in South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, NZ? (I think)...since he has played a test match away.

Australia have chosen not to tour, thats their decision, there needs to be consequences for that in performance rankings.

Very strange

What’s also freakish is the amount of times he’s been dropped or out to no balls. Apparently he’s been dropped as many times as he’s been caught in his test career so far.

You’d think the law of averages will win out at some point.

He looks a quality player, but not in the league of Root, Smith and Williamson to me.

He has almost exclusively played in home conditions too, so its hard to judge

Its worth remembering someone like Ballance, who averaged like 60+ after about the same number of tests, maybe less

Not for one minute suggesting he will be like that, just that tests will come abroad in unfamiliar conditions etc

I just found that rankings very strange, dont see how that its unfair, although its not that important I guess

Most news outlets saying Burns to be dropped instead of Hameed, seems they changed their mind as Hameed was first considered

Its not football mentality at all and it’s certainly not abuse!!

It’s simply a opinion mate, with respect I simply don’t think Bess is good enough for international cricket.

It’s just an honest opinion, I am sure that’s allowed.

I can't remember Bess getting much stick before that match in Chennai.

Loves a full toss does bess
Bit of undercover work on cricket forums to ensure you get picked marra?

"Since Root's Test debut at the end of 2012 in India, none of the 26 England batting debutants has averaged 40 or more."

the key stat, and what I suspected.

They have tried all sorts, young, old, white ball players etc

Not one has averaged over 40, remarkable

Its why the likes of Bairstow keep getting brought back, better than the others.

I feel sorry for Root, you cant do anything with a side who scores no runs.
I dunno what they are meant to do like.

They are also just playing too much cricket, we go to Windies in few months

again, its 30 months since Oz were abroad

Yeah Root has carried the batting side, only in cricket would a player who has played so well get critcised.

The bottom line is we have not lost games because of his capability or none capability as captain.

We have lost games because the other players have not stood up to be counted or have simply not been good enough.

That is not Root’s fault!!

Really disapointed wirh Stokes this series, realise he hasn't played much, but still.

So much pressure on Root to score a 100

he has actually played pretty well this series.

Yeah me too, be hard for him to come into this series so cold.

Maybe because of his very high standards we were expecting too much considering his time out.

Stokes is world class he will be back alright!!

He will but his form is a major reason for the severity of the defeats

We needed stokes on form

It’s really gonna be tough just to get through the next 2 tests

This is excellent

Rightly makes the point that that the pitches in county cricket is being used as an excuse too many times.

Also coaches too willing to accept unorthodox techniques early on
