Re-arranging deckchairs on the Titanic for the 3rd test

Again the smilies as usual show a lack of respect for the person holding a discussion and a difference of opinion with you. As far as changes are concerned I would have Bairstow for Pope and probably Crawley for Hameed. My ‘support’ for Burns is simply out of very bad options for the next test I would probably go for the opener with an average of over 30 against Australia, had a ton against them and had just batted for 100 balls in this game looking decent. You would prefer Sibley given the choice. I disagree but I won’t be hoying smilies up to take the piss ;)

I smiled because I found your post amusing, no more, no less.

Hameed
Burns
Malan
Root (c)
Stokes
Pope
Buttler (wk)
Woakes (ob)
Overton
Robinson (ob)
Wood

Final opportunity for this batting lineup to show some form, or changes in Sydney are a certainty.

Burns
Crawley
Malan
Root
Stokes
Lawrence
Bracey
Overton
Robinson
Wood
Crane

MIght as well start planning for the future. I'm not even sure if the Lions are still there but if they are, Crane and Bracey might as well have a go.

EDIT: As I thought they're not there. Leach is better than Bess so he has to play as the spinner. I suppose after 4th innings, Buttler has to play but he needs replaced by an out and out WK long term.

Rory Burns
Zak Crawley
Dawid Malan
Joe Root (captain)
Ben Stokes
James Vince (don't really like him but plays often in Australia and potentially more consistent in getting atleast some runs) / Jonny Bairstow
Jos Buttler (WK)
Chris Woakes/Broad/Robinson
Mark Wood
Stuart Broad/James Anderson/Saqib Mahmood
Jack Leach

James Anderson
Jonny Bairstow
Dan Lawrence
Ollie Robinson (assuming he isnt fit)
Mahmood

I'd go for this as they won't bring anyone in over someone whoo hasn't had a go and was initially picked in the squad.
1. Burns
2. Malan
3. Crawley
4. Root
5. Lawrence
6. Stokes
7. Bairstow
8. Bess
9. Robinson
10. Wood
11. Anderson

1. Strauss (c)
2. Cook
3. Trott
4. Root
5. Pietersen
6. Stokes
7. Prior (w)
8. Swann
9. Robinson
10. Broad
11. Anderson

job done 8-)

Mate, the bloke uou backed regularly gets out in the first few overs

Sibley to be fair to him actually regularly bats time, just cant score.

Was just an observation like, Burns is miles worse as he cant do the fundamental job as an opener which is to see off the new ball

I find it amusing you hve watched those first 2 games and yet will pick exactly the same team, mad.
Sibley hasn’t batted against Cummins, Hazelwood and co he was lucky he made his debut just after the last Ashes.

He will never be the answer he has very limited scoring shots, does not rotate or look to rotate the strike.

They would destroy him imo.

Burns v Sibley what a choice!!

But would take Burns out of the two.

Harsh on Buttler that. Looked good in the first innings of the first Test, and a superb effort last night imo

I’d now get rid of Pope, he looks shot. Personally I’d play Lawrence but it’s toss of a coin.

Openers. Meh. Can’t come up with an argument for any. Whoever is least worst.

Keeper. Dunno. Toss a coin. Buttler batted well today it seems, fair play, but keeping wasn’t great

Bowlers. Fuck knows. Not Woakes. Definitely Wood. Probably Anderson. Probably Robinson still. Spinner? Dunno.

Summary: we’re fucked

I dont usually agree with this theory, but I think you need to have some sort of eye on the future

No point in playing Burns, no point at all, he has no long term future.

May as well give Crawley ago, just because there is ability here, and in 4 years time he might be someone who is about, same with Hameed.

The other option is to ignore the future and maybe open with Malan, I dunno.

Problem is also I really dont rate Dan Lawrence, I think he is the same as Burns in that once he is in he might get a few runs but he will always get out early playing across the line like he does.

You also have people like Vince playing in the Big Bash, they can physically play.

Hameed
Crawley
Malan
Root
Stokes
Buttler
Bairstow (WK)
Leach
Wood
Robinson
Broad

Broad over Jimmy purely to target Warner, although thats gone. Bairstow is a better keeper and would take Buttler out and ease pressure. He is not a number 6 but he has some charachter at least, and he is in the squad.

I would consider picking Vince at 5 and Stokes at 6 personally

Any XI cant have Pope in, he is pretty much unselectable right now, no scenario is ideal and I dont think anyone here thinks changes will make a huge difference

Buy you really have to try, we have 3 tests to go.

One thing that isnt get said is that Stokes batting has been a big big issue like in this series

you cant blame him, not about that, just for a side, he has scored no runs and although he is battling his heart out, I cant see him making any

Despite our openning issues

Root & Malan have got us to 2 very good positions, but as soon as one gets out, its then Stokes, out of practice, and then Pope, out of form

the 5 n 6 almost a big of an issue as the openers

I really think Malan deserves a lot more credit in the media than he has got, because without him, I mean we could have had a couple of 3 day tests

Sorry, I don't get how you say pick for the future, then advocate dropping Pope altogether?
@mods someone has hacked TheRey’s account.

I'll give anyone credit where it's due, and I like Jos. As much as I think Foakes is the better WK, to drop him now would be absurd, as well as incredibly harsh
