Noticed a big rat underneath the bird feeder this morning, went out and took the bird food off it.

Put some rat poison down.

Just seen it being chased and caught by a stray cat , quite impressive stalking tbh.

Is rat poison problematic for raptors owls and scavengers in that they eat the dying or dead rats then they too die of poisoning? We live on and olive grove and do need to control vermin but use humane traps or let our terriers loose.

Coincidentally, we had one on our bird feeders this morning….massive but clean! It climbed up the slender twigs of the fuchsia that I should have cut down! Wasn’t intimidated by us watching it either!
The birds haven’t been back since but bollocks to ‘em…it’s going, let them eat worms!

Mix your bird feed with dried chilli flakes. The birds will still eat it, but nowt else will want to touch it.

Had a right rat problem in our garden when I was a bairn, they came out of the back of the Chinese takeaway and into the gardens. My dog died of leptospirosis caused by eating grass with rats piss on.

Pest control came out and put loads of dyed blue poisoned corn down. Got a knock at the door from next door neighbour had we seen the bairns pet rabbit as it had escaped. Checked the back garden and sure enough, there it was, munching its way through the blue corn.

It was fine.

Mind they're becoming a lot braver and more common during day light. Council aren't baiting sewers because of cuts.

The last few times we've put feeders out, pretty soon after we start seeing Rats.
Had Acorn Pest Control out each time and put bait box down. He came back a week later and all bait taken, another week, not touched.....job done.
After the second time, we stopped putting feed out

Is this true? Weve put none out this winter as rats were spotted last winter.
