Rafael Benítez

Did Benitez really do much at Newcastle? The Spurs result was a freak end of season dead rubber. He sorted the defence out but if Cabaye hadn't produced a pathetic penalty he would have been relegated earlier.

107 page thread is simply embarrassing it seems we really are bothered by all of this shamefully ... what's going on are we not content to just push on ourselves and try for the top 5-10 places while they engage on their wasted season ???

He's saying he will be allowed to keep the whole squad.

I hope he does
Being allowed is one thing, but fuck me their players literally went on strike at times during the last two seasons, so how is he going to motivate players who dont want to be there.

Exactly

15 million quid. Rafa knows mugs when he sees them!

If he fails he's laughing his socks off.....if he succeeds he's laughing his socks off.....either way I doubt he really cares

Ah the Chronicle already chalking them up on the bullshitometer

Benitez is right up there with the top managers in the world when it comes to his powers of persuasion – and he is more than capable of ensuring some of United’s best players might stay on another year. But the Spaniard is also well known to play hard ball with players who are under contract

He'll be straight on the phone to Stevie G. He was the one who actually won the Champions league after all :)

According to SG it was the players who did, after they collectively decided to ignore RB's instructions at half time and just go for it!

He said that Benitez was still urging caution.

I often think Sam would be the ultimate manager to get a side promoted from the Championship. Unfortunately, unlike Benitez he has never been there and is never likely to go there so I wont be able to test my theory.

You seem to be forgetting his time at West Ham!

All about how he was persuaded to stay by the fans, Ant and Dec and the Bishop of Durham (no, I am not making this up). Has full control plus £20m to spend and any money raised from sales with ability to retain all or any of the current squad.

It's amazing the press coverage they get.

My hope is without much press coverage we just sneak around next season doing pretty well in the middle of the table as BSA builds a really solid squad. I'm trying not to feel too positive because I've done that before in the close season but TBH we saw some real team play from January so it's difficult not to feel good about our chances.

ITHICS

This is the key bit of your post. I am not remotely interested in star signings, splashing the cash or big promises. I want Big Sam to be as ruthless and professional as he can be.

Get plays in that will fit into EXACTLY how he wants to play. They don't have to cost a fortune, just make sure they are what he needs. I don't care if we are the most direct side in the league. Big chance to make some logical seasons this summer.

Ant and Dec?! without reading the article I suspect the Times are taking the piss.

Ps. It's not written by George Caulkin by any chance is it?
