Aye, if they've got sense they'll shift the ones not prepared to put in the graft required, spend any money recouped on players equipped to get out of that league. Not sure their moronic fans would stand for that though. They've got their top class manager, they'll be expecting top class signings to go with him.

Now they've confirmed that God is officially in charge I hope a lot of their less committed players are less reluctant to staying and putting in a partial shift for big bucks.

Anyone else not care? They aren't on our radar anymore. They're a Football League club now, I hope they enjoy their midweek trips to Wigan and Burton.

I think the key is he had 10 games to save Newcastle but failed. Advocaat had 9 games, Di Canio had 8 games, both with poorer players at their disposal. Whilst it wasn't a straightforward job Benitez clearly didn't do a great job. I think the Newcastle will get promoted due to the extreme lack of quality in the Championship. If I was a Newcastle fan I'd probably want the gut but I don't get why there is this reverence about a Benitez and the desire to have a 'world class' manager. You stats there are remarkable attempt to make a failed job into a good one. He hasn't done a great job so far but may do in the future.

I've addressed this line a lot on here. Benitez GpG is better than Di Canio, Allardyce and only nominally worse than Advocaat. But in isolation that doesn't tell the whole story, about what Allardyce inherited, what the 15/16 league was like. But I fear you're underestimating the size of the job Benitez took on.

BSA is on far less. My point is, people saying he is there because he loves the club and it has huge potential is a load of shit. I think the top 4 mangers are only on more than Rafa. That is why he is staying.

I think that if money was the only motivator he'd have fucked off to Saudi Arabia, or China, or Russia and swam in his money pile, Scrooge McDuck style.

Desperate to be seen as a big club after telling the world how great they are constantly for two decades.

I don't blame them for being optimistic they'll come back up, but the "push on to the CL spots the season after" nonsense is typical of that deluded lot.

It would be absolutely magical to watch another messiah thrown to the dogs if he struggles to get them promoted. They'd be up shit creek and his career will be in tatters which is where it's been heading for a while.

What other motivators is there like?

Can see him walking this time next year, in a massive huff at the £500m warchest he was promised being replaced with "just keep going with the lads you currently have".

That last game of the season has totally put cling film over the massive cracks at that club. I think Rafa (League) Beneathus is gonna get a shock. I'm not saying they won't be up there.I think they will, but i don't think they will run away with it. By saying be up there,i mean among the top 8 or so going for the playoff positions. Rafa was always better at european 2 legged tactics. The blood and thunder of the championship twice a week won't suit a lot of them
